CONSTITUTION: The Z-isomer which may contain the E-isomer of 1-(2,4- dichlorophenyl)-2-( 1, 2, 4-triazol-1-yl )-4,4-dimethyl-1-penten-3-one (triazolylstyryl ketone derivative) expressed by formula I is reacted with sulfuric acid (≥40wt%, preferably ≥90wt% concentration) and an isomerization catalyst, e.g. a com pound capable of forming halonium ions such as bromine or iodine, in an organic solvent to carry out isomerization and formation of the E-isomer sulfate at the same time. The resultant sulfate is separated as crystals, which are then decomposed. Thereby the E-isomer having better efficary than that of a compound expressed by formula II, obtained by reducing the compound expressed by formula I and useful as a germicide, herbicide and plant growth regulator can be efficiently obtained.
