CONSTITUTION: In a Mach-Zehnder interference system, with a difference in a spatial layout of a sensing fiber 3 and a reference fiber 2, a difference is generated in a turbulence applied thereto to vary an intensity of an interfering light received with photo detectors 7 and 7' and hence, a phase modulator 10 and drift compensators 8 and 9 are introduced to stabilize an interference system by removing a drift attributed to the difference in the turbulence. A sensing section formed from a magnetic body (Ni) covered fiber 3 is supported linearly at both ends thereof in a direction (x) with a clamps 4 and 4'. Now when an inclined magnetic field 5 to be measured is applied as inclined in a direction (y), a magnetic attraction force 5' acts on a fiber span. Therefore, a phase of light propagated through the fiber changes thereby enabling measurement of the inclination of the magnetic field as a quantity proportional to a component of an output of the interference system from the change in the phase.
