USE: A herbicide having selectivity between crops of the family Gramineae and weeds of the family Gramineae. Exhibiting herbicidal effect against weeds of the family Gramineae, e.g., Schrader's brome-grass, Goose grass, Green foxtail, Echinonchloa oryzicola Vosing, etc. by both soil treatment before germination and foliar treatment. Having no phytotoxicity to rice plant, soybeans of Dicotyleaones, cotton, beet, etc.
PROCESS: 3-Methyl-5-(1-chloroethyl)-1,2,4-oxaiazole is reacted with 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl-4-hydroxyphenyl ether and anhydrous potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide to give a reaction mixture, which is added to water. The reaction mixture in water is blended with benzene, extracted and separated. The separated solution is shaked with a dilute alkali aqueous solution and water successively to give an organic layer, which is taken out and dehydrated to give the titled compound.
