EXAMPLE: N, N-Dimethyl-N'-[3-(3-fluoro-n-propoxy)phenyl]urea.
USE: A herbicide. Especially effective against broad leaf weeds and weeds of the family Cyperaceae. Having extremely high safety to useful crops, e.g, soybeans, cotton, etc., and increase in amount of the herbicide has no bad influence on yiled in foliar treatment.
PROCESS: A compound shown by the formula II (X is halogen) is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III in the presence of a base (e.g., trimethylamine, triethylamine, pyridine, etc.) to give the titled compound shown by the formula I. An amount of the base is equimolar with the compound shown by the formula II, preferably 1W3 times moles. The reaction is carried out in an organic solvent, e.g., benzene, toluene, etc. at not lower than 0°C, perferably at 20W150°C at normal pressure.
