PROCESS: A 2-halogenobenzothiazole of formula II (Hal is halogen) is reacted with a compound of formula III (M is H or alkali metal) in a solvent, e.g. water or hexane, or a diluent in the presence of an acid binder, e.g. triethylamine or pyridine, to give the compound of formula I. The reaction temperature is preferably 0W100°C.
