PROCESS: A compound of formula A is reacted with PCl
5 to give a compound of formula B. Alternatively, the compound of formula A is acetylated, trimethylsilylated, and hydrolyzed to form the compound of formula C. The compound of formula I, e.g. formula D or E, can be obtained from the compound of formula A.
