1 -3-(3-Trifluoro methyl phenoxy)phenyl-N,N-dimethylurea of formula I.
USE: Herbicides suitable for foliar treatment of weeds after germination in the plowed soybean fields, with great safety to soybean, and substantially nontoxic even in a large amount.
PROCESS: 3-(3-Trifluorophenoxy)phenyl isocyanate is reacted with dimethylamine in an inert organic solvent, e.g. benzene, to give the objective compound of formula I. Alternatively, 3-(3-trifluoro methyl)aniline is reacted with N, N-dimethylcarbamyl chloride in the presence of a dehydrochlorinating agent in an inert organic solvent.
