235 Methods and apparatus to reduce blocking noise and contouring effect in motion compensated compressed video US10941174 2004-09-14 US20050207492A1 2005-09-22 I-Ming Pao
A method and systems are disclosed for removing artifacts, such as blocking noise and contouring effects, from a block-encoded video signal. One method for removing blocking artifacts comprises decoding the block-encoded signal to obtain a decoded sequence of video frames and one or more associated motion vectors. By using the motion vector, the location of one or more blocking artifacts may be identified within at least one of the frames. The location identified by the motion vector is filtered to remove at least some of the blocking artifacts. Another method for removing contouring effects comprises decoding the block-encoded signal to obtain a decoded sequence of video frames, detecting a contouring effect by evaluating the macroblock mode and DCT coefficient information from the decoded signal, and filtering one or more blocks correlating to the detected contouring effect.
236 Linear variable displacement transducers including phase shifting series connected coils US207278 1988-06-15 US4906924A 1990-03-06 James Zannis
A displacement transducer has a movable slug which varies the mutual inductance of two coil sections. The coil sections are connected in a network which causes a variation of phase shift in a signal from an oscillator on movement of the slug. A phase detector detects this phase shift. The use of a variable phase design overcomes the need for high gain linear amplification and the problem of noise in conventional variable amplitude linear variable displacement transducers. The variable phase shift network obviates the need for balanced amplitude quadrature input signals of one known variable phase transducer, while giving a linear phase shift wihtout the need for a specially shaped slug as in another known variable phase transducer.
237 Image processing method using a block overlap transformation procedure US441826 1982-11-15 US4442454A 1984-04-10 Philip G. Powell
An image processing method is provided for reducing noise in a sampled image, particularly for reducing noise in an image divided into blocks of sampled image elements that are transformed by a linear procedure, such as the Walsh-Hadamard transform, and improved regarding visible noise by non-linear thresholding of the transform coefficients. By operating the process in a hierarchy of stages, each stage employing a block operating on image signals derived from a preceding stage, and by overlapping the blocks processed in each stage, the processed signal from each image element is the linear combination of many transform coefficients from each stage and from each overlapped block within each stage. Such a large number of contributions making up each processed image element assures that the processed image is generated without a characteristic block-like structure due to block transform processing while the wanted components of the image are rendered with minimal image loss or distortion.
