164 Thin-wall multi-concentric cylinder speaker enclosure with audio amplifier tunable to listening room US600304 1996-02-12 US5920633A 1999-07-06 Yi-Fu Yang
An acoustic transmission line speaker enclosure with concentric cylindrical structures establishes acoustic coupling between a rear-traveling sound wave and a surrounding air mass. Inherent rigidity or high bending resistance of the cylindrical structure allows use of very thin walled cylinders without a massive and large overall enclosure. An audio amplifier tunable to a listening room removes very low narrow frequency band components of an audio signal. Listening room cavity resonance is measured by injecting a frequency-varying sound wave into the listening room while detecting peak sound energy within the room. The filter the eliminates from audio signal frequencies associated with listening room cavity resonance.

PURPOSE:To realize a sounding place to be desirably reproduced by providing a sound characteristic measuring means for measuring the sound characteristics of a listening room and a control means for controlling the sound characteristics reproduced from a plurality of speakers according to the result of measuring of the sound characteristic measuring means. CONSTITUTION:Sounds, after amplified to a proper magnitude by the use of a microphone amplifier 9, are inputted to a sound characteristic measuring means 6 to measure the sound characteristics of a listening room 10. The sound characteristic measuring means 6 indicates correction characteristics necessary to realize a sounding place to be desirably reproduced under the measured sound characteristics to a sound characteristic controlling means 2. After the initial setting, when voices of a sound source 1 is heard, a sound source change- over switch 8 is set to the sound characteristic control means 2 side and a speaker microphone change-over switch 11 is set to the power amplifier 3 side. Thus, the sound place in which the sound source 1 independent of the sound characteristics of the listening room 10 is recorded can be reproduced.
170 Howling preventing device JP21546983 1983-11-15 JPS60106234A 1985-06-11 MATSUMURA ASAYUKI

The voltage amplified by this amplifier 4 is applied to the speaker 6, whose sound pressure is outputted to a sound field 9. The delay time of the circuit 10 is set meeting specific requirements according to the transfer function of the sound field 9 in the listening room. Then, the howling in the optional listening room that a user uses is prevented and the sound quality is improved at all frequencies.
171 Modal response compensation EP15151166.4 2015-01-14 EP2963950A1 2016-01-06 Martin, Geoffery Glen

A method for compensating for a modal response of a listening room on an acoustic output, comprising transforming a left channel signal and a right channel signal to a mid channel signal and a side channel signal, applying a mid channel filter to the mid channel signal to provide a filtered mid channel signal, applying a side channel filter to the side channel signal to provide a filtered side channel signal, retransforming the filtered mid channel signal and the filtered side channel signal to a left channel output and a right channel output, applying the filtered left channel output to a first loudspeaker, and applying the filtered right channel output a second loudspeaker.

The resulting filtering avoids applying filtering to musical signals that do not require correction due to the interaction (or lack thereof) between the signals (as a result of their correlation coefficient) and the listening room's resonant behavior.

173 Standing wave suppressing device JP30467788 1988-11-30 JPH02150197A 1990-06-08 TAKAHASHI YOZO; TEIKA KOICHI
PURPOSE:To control and suppress a standing wave inside a listening room by vibrating the wall body of the listening room conforming to signal frequencies, and practically changing the wall surface from transparence to opacity with respect to a sound wave. CONSTITUTION:A wall surface 4a facing a sound source 8 is driven by an exciting device 3, and the reflectance of the wall surface 4a with respect to the incident wave and the phase of the reflected wave from the wall surface 4a are changed, and the standing wave ratio of the standing wave and the position of a node (a) or a loop (b) are changed. That is, when the wave surface 4a vibrates at the same phase and the same angle speed as those of the incident wave, and the medium of the incident wave is dense, the wall surface 4a operates so that the medium may be rough near the wall surface 4a, the sound pressure near the wall surface 4a is canceled and decreased, and it results in the same effect that is obtained when the reflectance of the wall surface 4a decreases. In such a way, by controlling the amplitude and phase of the wall surface 4a, the condition of the standing wave inside the listening room can be controlled.

178 Bass reflex type loudspeaker system JP28673990 1990-10-23 JPH04159898A 1992-06-03 NAKAO KATSU
PURPOSE: To make the title system easily tuneable on the basis of the music source or listening room of a listener by driving an electro/mechanical converting means which changes the volume of bass reflex port which is provided at the position of the opening of a loudspeaker cabinet and can change its own volume by means of a signal given from the outside. CONSTITUTION: A loudspeaker unit 2 is fitted to the upper section on the front face of a loudspeaker enclosure 1 and a bass reflex port which can change its own volume is constituted of a cylindrical bass reflex port 3 fixed to the lower section on the front face in the inward direction and auxiliary port 4. When the volume of the bass reflex port is changed, the resonance frequency f 0 of the bass reflex port changes. Accordingly, the volume of the bass reflex port is freely changed by means of an electro/mechanical converting means from the outside of the loudspeaker so as to change the resonance frequency of the bass reflex port. Therefore, the low-frequency characteristic of this bass reflex type loudspeaker system can be improved, since a listener can easily tune the system on the basis of his taste or his listening room.
