A method and composition for effecting chemical necrosis of a tissue lining of a mammalian body cavity, particularly a uterine endometrium, by delivering a caustic tissue necrosing composition, e.g., a silver nitrate and dextran paste, to the tissue to be necrosed and allowing the paste to remain in contact with the target tissue for a period of time sufficient to chemically necrose substantially the entirety of the tissue lining, and then contacting the caustic composition with a deactivating agent, e.g., an aqueous sodium chloride solution, thereby rendering the caustic composition non-caustic, and then rinsing the cavity. Compositions and methods for delivering medicaments are also disclosed.

An apparatus and system for using semiochemical compositions to control insect pests including the navel orangeworm. Includes a source of at least one semiochemical composition contained within a housing and a dispenser to initiate the controlled release of the composition over an area of treatment in response to one or more control signals. Compound release is achieved by adjusting start times and stop times, at intervals that coincide with periods of high activity for an insect pest or in response to trap capture data for the insect pest. A transmitter may be included report operation and status for monitoring purposes. Optional receiver allows for remote control. Release of the composition may also depend on signals from a light sensor, temperature sensor or other environmental factors such as wind, humidity and rain. May use more than one semiochemical composition to address different insect pests.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a member for electrochemical biological control or antifouling which prevents deterioration as far as possible and has high durability by forming the wetting surfaces of the members of ships, fishing nets, cooling pipings, water distribution pipes, etc., of valve metals. SOLUTION: The base material 1 of an underwater structure is formed of the valve metal or if the base material 1 is formed of materials exclusive of the valve metal, the valve metal 2 is formed on the wetting surface of the base material 1. The examples of the base material 1 include metallic materials, such as iron, Al, copper and their alloys, etc., various kinds of resin materials, inorg. materials, etc. If electrochemically dissolving or corroding materials, for example, metallic materials, such as iron, are used as the base material 1, a pretreated layer 3 like an insulative coating film or resin film layer or an insulating inorg. matter layer, etc., of alumina, etc., is formed between the base material 1 and the valve metal 2. The valve metal is Ti, Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf and their alloys, etc., and is formed by laminating the foil of the valve metal via an adhesive on the surface of the base material 1 or by a vacuum vapor deposition method. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the cells of an aquatic organism or the like stuck to an electric conductive base material from the surface to be antifouled by impressing a positive potential not causing the decomposition of an electrolyte and further impressing a higher positive potential than that not causing the decomposition of the electrolyte. SOLUTION: A nylon resin substrate 3 and an electric conductive base material 2 obtained by forming an electric conductive resin layer electrode 4 thereon are arranged in a testing vessel 1. The positive potential not causing the decomposition of the electrolyte is impressed to the electric conductive base material 2 from a potentiostat 5 to sterilize the aquatic organism. Further the higher positive potential than that not causing the decomposition of the electrolyte is impressed to the electric conductive base material 2 from the potentionstat 5 to sterilize and finally a negative potential is impressed to release. As a result, the cell of the aquatic organism, the dead body, scale or the like stuck to the electric conductive base material 2 is removed from the surface to be antifouled. COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
