25 Method for performing a secure cash-free payment transaction and a cash-free payment system US10478100 2003-11-19 US20040148254A1 2004-07-29 Ralf Hauser
A method for performing a cash-free payment transaction that comprises: a) a provider (PPPP) receives a pre-authorization message (2null) for a payment to be made by a buyer (B), the pre-authorization message being authenticated for example by a personal identification number; b) the provider (PPPP) generates a payment nonce in response to this pre-authorization message; c) the provider (PPPP) forwards this payment nonce (3null) to the buyer (B) and the provider (PPPP) approves the payment when asked or when being debited by a seller (Snull) interface. The method further comprises that the above mentioned steps are performed by a private pre-authorization and payment provider (PPPP) and that the provider (PPPP) accepts a pre-authorization message being sent by a buyer's personal trusted device (PTD) being independent of the seller's interface and that the provider (PPPP) generates the payment nonce in a form which can be read by the seller's interface. This method using a personal trusted device (PTD) to obtain a nonce that protects privacy and prevents fraud being at the same time flexible enough to be used in different kinds of transactions, even in off-line transactions and not requiring downloads, special hardware, certificates, or pre-registration by the buyer.

32 Apparatus for cashless payment of merchandise or services US112903 1980-01-17 US4280037A 1981-07-21 Rolf Schmidhauser
The invention relates to a combination of an apparatus for the transfer of fungible goods or services, for example, cashless payment for merchandise or services, with a transfer device having marked thereon a plurality of cancellable value units in the form of at least first and second types of optical markings different from one another, and arranged in a predetermined cyclical sequence on at least one track of the transfer device, without the occurrence of any gaps, but with a transition region formed between adjacent markings. The apparatus includes a reading device, inclusive of a light source, and at least first and second light sensors associated with the first and second types of optical markings, respectively. The reading device is arranged for reading and generating signals from the markings, and from the transition regions, and an activatable erasing device erases the markings in dependence of the number of value units to be cancelled. A transport device effects a relative movement between the transfer device, and respectively, the reading and erasing devices along the track, and a control device controls the movement of the transport and erasing devices, disables the transport device, and activates the erasing device, when the erasing device is near one of the transition regions.

A method for carrying out cashless payments by means of mobile telecommunications terminals, wherein each mobile telecommunications terminal stores a subscriber identifier and a payment limit, which is assigned to the subscriber identifier, a transaction code, which is specific to the payment transaction, includes generating them using an algorithm and transmitting the mobile telecommunications terminal. The telecommunications terminal transmits the subscriber identifier, the transaction code and the payment limit to a cash register system of a cashless payment transaction, where the transmitted payment limit is compared to the desired payment amount and the validity of the transaction code is checked using a verification algorithm stored in the cash register system. If the check is positive, the payment is released in the cash register system.

40 Method of Effecting Cashless Payments and a System for Implementing the Method US12647061 2009-12-24 US20100223146A1 2010-09-02 Mathias Entenmann
The object of the present invention is to provide a method for simple but secure cashless payment, especially at different locations, and a system for implementing the method. In the method according to the invention an amount of money is read in at a merchant station and transmitted to a comparing device together with an-identification code of the merchant station, the data being stored in the interim at the comparing device. The payer sends the identification code of the merchant station through a mobile cell phone to the comparing device, which compares the identification code with that of the stored data and transmits the corresponding amount of money to the cell phone. Confirmation of the payment is requested there and transmitted to the comparing device, which transmits a corresponding account entry to an account keeping device. The system for implementing the method includes a cell phone, which operates in cell phone network, a merchant station and a comparing device, which can be connected to the cell phone and the merchant station through telecommunications and/or data links.
