The present invention describes a method for the compression of still images with the The present invention relates to devices for the processing of images, and in particular for the compression of static images to a high degree and the obtaining of a restored image of high image quality. More specifically, the subject of the present application is a method and mathematical device for the construction of a filter bank for the compression of bi-dimensional static images. Still picture images are encoded and transmitted at reduced rates using the MPEG-2 standard. Video frames are captured for processing at a still picture capture rate that is lower than the video input frame rate. The captured frames are compressed as Intra frames at the input frame rate. Selected ones of the compressed frames are inserted in the MPEG-2 transport stream for communication to a decoder at a still picture repetition rate which is no less, in frames per second, than the capture rate.

25 METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ELASTICITY IMAGING EP05853350.6 2005-12-07 EP1824390A1 2007-08-29 RADULESCU, Emil, G.
A computational efficient algorithm (12) for compression analysis of free-hand static elasticity imaging performed using medial diagnostic ultrasound imaging equipment (14) offers tissue compression quality and quantity feedback to the operator. The algorithm (12) includes a criterion for automatic selection of the most advantageous pre- and post-compression frame pairs delivering elasticity images of optimal dynamic ranges (DR) and signal-to -noise ratios (SNR). The use of the algorithm (12) in real time eases operator training and reduces significantly the amount of artifact in the elasticity images while lowering the computational burden.
26 Picture data recording device and its method JP12455795 1995-04-26 JPH08298644A 1996-11-12 MAKISHIMA SUGIO
PURPOSE: To record a still picture with high quality and a moving picture matching the conventional standard by a device capable of executing both of still recording and movie recording. CONSTITUTION: Picture data including 1280 picture elements in the horizontal direction and 960 picture elements in the vertical direction are obtained by a CCD11. IN a still recording mode, the picture data are compressed and recorded on a memory card(MC) to obtain a still picture with high quality. In a movie recording mode, the picture data including 1280 horizontal picture elements and 960 vertical picture elements are resampled by a resampling circuit 14 to obtain picture data having 720 horizontal picture elements and 480 vertical picture elements. The obtained picture data are compressed and recorded on a magnetic tape 8 matching the conventional standard. Since the band of picture data obtained by image pickup is wider than that of picture data to be recorded, resolution is not impaired even when filtering processing is executed for preventing the generation of folding distortion caused due to resampling processing. 33 Recording and reproducing device JP956299 1999-01-18 JP2000209545A 2000-07-28 KONISHI KAZUO
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow even a reproducing device manufactured by another company to reproduce a moving picture from a recording medium. SOLUTION: Prescribed compression processing is applied to a moving picture and the processed picture is recorded in a recording medium with a standardized still picture file format with various additional information sets or the like added thereto. In this case, a CPU in a digital still camera generates data to be written on the recording medium according to the items of moving picture recording which has been set by a user (ST206). Compressed picture data and various added information sets or the like are written on the recording medium with the standardized still picture file format for every shot (ST207). Furthermore, data required for reproducing a moving picture (recording sequence and photographing interval or the like) set to a user comment column of the user comment tag of the standardized still picture file format are recorded on the recording medium (ST208). 34 Digital electronic still camera and method of recording image data in memory card US411152 1995-03-27 US5528293A 1996-06-18 Mikio Watanabe
Image data are recorded in a memory card in a standard DOS-FAT data file structure. When the compression mode is set, original image data is compressed in accordance with a JPEG system, and compressed image data obtained and fixed information in a JPEG header are written in the memory card so as to form a JPEG file. When the uncompression mode is set, the original image data and fixed information in a TIFF header are written into the memory card so as to form a TIFF file. Accordingly, it becomes possible to handle not only compressed image data but also original image data which is obtained in a digital electronic still camera by a lot of types of personal computers.

Then a 2nd compressor 10 sets its output signal over a plurality of frames to the time gap area.
37 Progressive still frame mode US768894 1996-12-17 US6108027A 2000-08-22 Barry D. Andrews; Paul A. Voois
A still image is progressively transmitted over a communications channel by computing, encoding, and outputting for transmission difference information representing the difference between the still image and a lower quality representation of the still image that has been received by a remote location. This process is repeated, with additional difference information being generated to supplement the image received at the remote location, such that the quality of the image at the remote location improves over time. The difference information may be encoded in a format compatible with existing video compression standards and processed by a receiving terminal regardless of the presence of still mode capability.
38 Video system JP2000009993 2000-01-13 JP2000165783A 2000-06-16 KODAMA YASUMASA
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To utilize the merit of instantanity an electronic camera has by making this system consist of an electronic still camera and a printer and providing the electronic still camera with an image pick up means outputting a video signal, a storing means storing the video signal as a still picture, a displaying means displaying the video signal and a transmitting means which converts the video signal into a prescribed signal format and outputs it. SOLUTION: An electronic still camera makes a video signal projected on a CCD 10 video data compressed by a signal processing circuit 11 and a compression and expansion circuit 12 and records it on recording media 14 by a recording and reading circuit 13 in timing when a shutter is pressed. An output signal of the circuit 11 is reproduced by a reproduction circuit 16 and is projected on a monitor 2. When picked up video is desired to be seen, the video data recorded on the media 14 is projected on the monitor 2. When the picked up video is transmitted, a transmission unit 3 forms the video data of the media 14 into a signal format meeting a transmission standard and transmits it to a transmission line 17.
39 Direct connection of a data storage device and a consumer electronic device US10528127 2003-09-16 US20060109752A1 2006-05-25 Bruce Armour; Tony Combe
An optical data storage device (10) adapted to act as a “host” or master on a peripheral interface (14) (e.g. Universal Serial Bus) allows easy (automatic and single button activated) storage of data from a consumer electronic device (16) such as Digital Still Camera (DSC) directly connected to the device on a standard optical storage medium (13) such as CD-R without the need for a (10) personal computer. The images are decompressed and stored (11) within the drive memory (22), re-compressed into a standard format, MPEG-1 (transcoded). The transcoded images are recorded onto the optical medium (13) in a format where each still image is written as a separate image frame. The standard format is compatible with the Video CD (or VCD) standard. This invention also provides a device comprising two peripheral interfaces and adapted (18) to act as a host on both, so that the separate or other form of data storage device including HDD or flash memory can be used.
40 System to capture, store, and retrieve composite video for transmission over telephone lines US08762884 1996-12-07 US06380967B1 2002-04-30 Frank Sacca
A simple, low-cost videophone system for transmitting and receiving still video images over a standard telephone line in response to a user command. A video processor circuit, comprising an A/D converter, a digital memory, a digital timing circuit, and a D/A converter, can grab a video image from a standard video camera and store one-half the number of lines of a video frame in the digital memory. A still video image can be displayed in a standard TV monitor by repeatedly sending the data stored in the digital memory to the D/A converter. The data stored in the digital memory can be transmitted using a standard modem to the digital memory of an equivalent system at a remote location, and the same still video image can be displayed at the remote location within a short time. Data compression is accomplished during transmission by decreasing the number of significant bits of the data being transmitted and using standard protocols adopted by the modem. Voice communication on the telephone line is temporarily suspended while data is transmitted, and automatically resumed when transmission is complete.
