摘要 1406917 Beds convertible to shelving; shelving; fold-up beds; air-mattresses J FOUFOUNIS and C FOUFOUNIS 31 Jan 1973 [9 Feb 1972] 4862/73 Headings A4B, A4H, A4J and A4M A bed comprises a panel 3 adapted to pivot round a horizontal axis 4 between a raised vertical inoperative position and a lowered horizontal position in which it serves as a mattress support, the panel 3 carrying on its underside shelf-forming members adapted to pivot with reference to the panel round horizontal axes parallel to axis 4, means mechanically interconnecting said members with a stationary point 17 constraining the shelf-portions 10, 11, 12 to remain horizontal throughout pivoting of the panel. As shown, the shelves 10, 11, 12 are each carried by a pair of vertical links 13, 14 15 pivoted to the panel 3 and to a bar 16 parallel to panel 3 and pivoted to point 17 so as to form a parallelogram linkage. In a second form of parallelogram linkage, Fig. 2 (not shown), the horizontal shelves 10, 11, 12 are pivoted (at 20, 21, 22) to the frame (23) of panel 3. In a third form, Fig. 3 (not shown), two shelves (26, 27) each carry at least one end pinion (28, 29), which pinions mesh with two further pinions (30, 31) pivotally secured to a post (32) pivotally carrying the shelves and rigid with the frame of the panel 3. The pinions (28-31) mesh with a stationary gear (33) coaxial with the pivot axis (34) of the post (32). The panel 3 may be raised and lowered by a winch 6 and a cable 7 operated by a crank or electric motor. The panel 3 may have secured thereto a pneumatic overlay mattress which may be inflated and deflated automatically on lowering and raising the panel 3 by a pump controlled by the motor. Each shelf may include an inner vertical flange that covers the panel 3 when raised.
