An infection resistant mat having individual segments containing foam padding and a contiguous cover of impervious material. The cover is constructed by radio frequency (RF) sealing of the seams which eliminates portals of entry of infectious organisms, vermin or fluid. Air channels within the cover communicate between the segments to allow air pressure equalization among the several segments during use. The contiguous cover creates hinges between the segments that allow the mat to be folded for storage. The mat also can be constructed with only one padded section. |

A fitted sheet, especially for use as a crib sheet for covering, for protecting a mattress and for completely and positively encasing and engaging the entire mattress such that a corner or any portion of the crib sheet can not be inadvertedly pulled loose by an infant and thereby significantly reducing the risk of an infant's chance of suffocation due to entanglement in the crib sheet. The fitted sheet includes a coverlet, generally conforming to the dimensions of the mattress, having a top panel spaced from and parallel to a bottom panel, a first end panel and a second end panel extending between the top and bottom panels and a first side panel and a second side panel extending between the top and bottom panels. The coverlet has a pad member formed of a liquid absorbent material, a base member formed of a liquid impermeable material, joined to a cover sheet, by sewing, to form an integral layered structure. The fitted sheet is releasably secured to the mattress with a zipper disposed on at least the first side panel, the first end panel and the second side panel of the coverlet. The fitted sheet may be reversibly usable when wet or soiled simply by reversing the mattress such that a clean, dry panel is available for immediate use without the need to change the entire fitted sheet until a later, more convenient, time. |

A mat member is divided into a plurality of mat members and those divided mat members are individually wrapped in a middle bag respectively, to form middle mats 7 and 8 and these middle mats 7 and 8 are adjacently wrapped in an outer bag to form a finished mat. Whereby, the middle mats 7 and 8 wrapped in the outer bag 9 are individually separated, which is made easily to take out and accommodate in the outer bag and causes to lighten the burden of a nurse for removing or putting the finished mat, and since the finished mat comprises the middle mats wrapped in double i.e. in middle bags individually and in an outer bag, any excreta is not penetrated to the mat members, by which instant cleaning of the finished mat can be carried out to lighten the burden of the sick and the nurse. |

A mattress intended for use in hospital facilities, and having replaceable parts is disclosed. The mattress is made up of an upper layer of one foam material and a lower thicker layer, itself having two layers. The first lower layer is constructed to give a reclining body flexible support. The second lower layer supports and acts as a base for the first lower layer. The upper and lower foam layers are covered by a water and moisture impervious cover. The cover is formed in two halves, an upper half enclosing the upper layer on the top and sides and a lower half enclosing the lower layer on the bottom, the sides and a portion of the top. The two halves of the cover are joined together by a zipper around the side walls of the mattress to entirely enclose two inner foam layers. |

A disposable protective device is securable about individuals incontinent due to ill health, mental condition, or age. The device includes an impermeable sheet underlying a cushioned liquid absorbent layer coextensive with the sheet, wherein the laminated body includes a central body portion and longitudinally aligned first and second legs, wherein the first leg includes a plurality of adhesive members to secure the first and second legs about a body portion of an individual in a surrounding manner. The laminated body may include liquid soluble deodorant tablets as an embodiment of the invention, and may further include a cushioned buttocks pad formed with an undulating upper surface for accommodating a buttocks of an individual to enhance comfort of the device. A further embodiment may include a sloping ridged layer aligned orthogonally relative to a longitudinal axis of the device, wherein the ridge may include a cushioned liquid absorbent upper layer overlying a peaked cushion core for positioning between legs of an individual to enhance comfort in use of the device. |

A flexible covering for reducing vapor transmission to a core of a mattress includes outer and inner coverings respectively forming first and second moisture/vapor/bacteria barriers, the outer and inner coverings being formed of materials having a flexibility sufficient to reduce tissue pressures which cause the formation of pressure sores on the body of a patient. The material of the outer and inner coverings comprise one of a woven and/or non-woven materials having or forming a vapor barrier such that the outer and inner coverings have a vapor transmission of less than 10.7 grams per hour per meter.sup.2. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the covering forms an integral part of the mattress or forms an envelope covering the core thereof. |

Hospital mattresses are generally made of foam plastic having predominantly open cell cores and are in the form of a parallel-epipedic block which is provided with a protective layer consisting of a plastic film which is easy to clean so that injurious substances and bacteria can be removed. Such mattresses have the drawback, however, that when used they produce sounds which are disturbing. These sounds are eliminated in accordance with the present invention by arranging a layer of fabric between the outer surface of the foam plastic block and the protective layer. |

A mattress is constructed of foam having a 50% compression deflection pressure equal to the body weight of an average patient divided by his projected body area and a thickness in excess of his body depth, to prevent bedsores by providing a moldable surface which spreads support to a great area of the patient''s body. The mattress surface supporting the patient is subdivided into a plurality of individual load bearing units to provide lateral give to the mattress. A water proof cover sheet fits over the mattress and includes means for tightening the cover about the mattress to provide a firmer mattress for maneuvering the patient.
