A bed moveable from a lowered position to a raised position includes two pairs of guides. In each pair, one guide is oriented so as to be substantially vertical and the other guide is disposed at an angle to the first guide. A lift assembly is located in each guide. A support including a frame is coupled to the lift assemblies. A drive system moves the lift assemblies in two directions, thereby lowering and raising the support. As the support is raised, it moves from a substantially horizontal orientation to a non-horizontal orientation.

As an accessory, the invention can be used as a bed capable of supporting a person. Height adjustable legs will level the surface for sleeping or use as a camping workbench or food prep table. U-shaped arches inserted in each of the four corners will allow a canopy to be added that will provide an enclosed sleeping area or as a place to store camping gear out of the weather. In a collapsed transportation mode, the invention actually expands the loading space of the cargo rack.

With the apparatus positioned within the vehicle bed and the wheel wells positioned at least partially within the lateral recesses, the recess ledges in combination with a perimeter ledge cover substantially any exposed portions of the wheel wells, while a set of upper and lower perimeter chambers further maintain a stable structure of the apparatus during use both within a vehicle bed as well as on any other relatively flat surface in otherwise conventional fashion.

A front portion of the base is adjacent the headboard. A rear portion of the base is adjacent a tailgate. The inflatable first support is releasable attached to the front portion of the base. The first support includes an inflatable backrest and at least one inflatable armrest connected to the backrest. The inflatable second support is releasably attached to one of the front portion of the base and the first support. The second support is spaced from the at least one armrest.

The first support includes an inflatable backrest and at least one inflatable armrest connected to the backrest. The inflatable second support is releasably attached to one of the front portion of the base and the first support. The second support is spaced from the at least one armrest.

The bed bracket includes a chain connector for connecting to the chain, a chain guide member receiving the chain and attached to the chain connector, and a bed support member attaching to the chain guide member and to the bed. At least a portion of the bed support member is inserted through the chain guide member. The bed bracket is compact and easy to manufacture and provides a secure connection between the lift mechanism and the bed.

A combination jackknife bed and couch for a mobile vehicle. The jackknife bed and couch allows drivers to wake up and fold their sheets and pillow away from a seamless sleeping surface without the need to remove the sheets, blankets, pillows or other bedding materials. The sheets stay made within the folded up bed now turned into the couch. The couch may be unfolded with the sheets fully made so the driver may catch some well deserved post socializing rest without having to re-install the sheets. These features are made possible by folding the bed in and half and keeping it in the backrest of the couch. The sheets are held in place by stretchable retaining surface that may be extended over the bedding materials. When returned to the bed mode, the stretchable retaining surface must be released and potential energy in the winder may be used to retract the retaining surface.
