An optional ottoman (50) may be used as a conventional ottoman or as a seating location on its own. The ottoman (50) has a slidable tray that can provide additional work surface or space to rest additional personal items while the user sits or rests in the unit. Several chair portions (20) may be supported together in a row with extended wings (25) and/or slidable desks on the ends.

The seat is mounted to the front of the backrest and rotates vertically between a folded and unfolded position. In the folded position, the seat is sandwiched between the backrest and the front support members. In the unfolded position, the seat prevents the front support members from rotating inwards to the folded position. The seat is supported in an unfolded position by seat supports located on each of the front support members, which are received by receivers in the seat. A latch located on one of the arms selectively engages an opening in the seat to secure the seat in the unfolded position.

The first track portion includes a channel that receives bracket-mounted connectors by which the beam is fixed relative to the ground. Each of the seats has at least one seat support with a clamp portion that secures to the second track portion of the beam, free from the channel to avoid interfering with the connectors, regardless of the point at which the support is clamped to the beam. The second track portion is preferably shaped to include a rear overhang and front overhang defining oppositely directed undercut surfaces on which the seat support is securely mounted.

A pair of springs apply a bias force between the lower ends and the seat frame or the seat bottom. As a user sits on the seat bottom and leans back against the seat back, the seat back pivots and the seat bottom slides forward. Alternately, a link member can be used between the seat bottom or seat frame, and the post, to lift the seat bottom as it moves forward.
