A stylish fold-up table has pivoting leg assemblies mounted to the underside of opposing ends of a table top. Pivoting skirts are mounted to the underside of opposing sides of the table top. The leg assemblies are erected and the side skirts are then folded down. Latches on the side skirts then engage latch receiving elements on the leg assemblies to secure the table in an erect position. In a preferred embodiment, this arrangement allows for a storable fold-up table in which all mounting hardware is hidden when erected.

A height-adjustable, free standing tray stand having a tray-supporting surface with a cut-out section in the forward edge of the surface. Not only is it adjustable in height, it is readily set for an individual waiter's comfort during use. The tray top, when viewed from above, is "U" or horseshoe shaped and defines a forward facing opening that allows a waiter to approach the stand with a loaded tray carried from about waist to shoulder height. In use, the waiter simply moves the loaded tray over the top of the U-shaped opening which allows his arm to move between the forward facing arms of the horseshoe and lower the loaded tray until it firmly rests securely on the upper surface on top of the tray stand. The waiter may then lower his wrist, hand and arm and conveniently remove them from beneath the tray. The tray supporting surface is hinged in order to allow it to be folded down into a vertical position, and the hollow base is contoured with openings in the rear so that several bases can nest together for compact storage of the tray stands.

An accessory tray which can be placed atop a computer monitor regardless of the monitor's size and shape. The underside of the tray has a rubber friction pad attached near its front, and a bendable wire attached near its rear by means of tubes welded to the underside. The wire is bent to hold the rear of the tray spaced from the top of the monitor so that the tray will not block any air vents in the top of the monitor. The friction pad, and a soft plastic sleeve over the portion of the wire that contacts the top of the monitor, enable the tray to resist slipping. Options such as a copyholder and a static electricity grounding connection are also attachable to the underside of the tray.

A support device, for the monitor and keyboard of a personal computer, enables the personal computer to be used by a person lying on a bed. The support device has a support body adapted for mounting over a person on a bed. The support body has first and second shelves. Each shelf is inclined forwardly and downwardly towards the user, and the second shelf can be inclined at a greater angle. The monitor and keyboard are mounted on the first and second shelf respectively. Retaining members are provided for holding the monitor and keyboard on the shelves. The support body can be mounted on the bed itself, or on a base running on wheels beneath the bed.

A support stand for reading material having a transparent plate (10) supported substantially above eye level (82) of a seated or standing reader. The plate is tilted toward the reader such that its front surface is approximately perpendicular to the reader's line of vision. Disposed near the lower edge of the plate on the side opposite the reader is a protruding member (12) which acts as a ledge for the reading material to rest against. Other configurations of this stand may include one or two secondary supporting plates (44 and 58), positioned at or below eye level, these plates being tilted such that their surfaces are also approximately perpendicular to the reader's line of vision and positioned at approximately the same distance from the reader's head.

The joint of this invention is pivotable and lockable about two perpendicularly intersecting axes. It is particularly suitable for a reading stand for patients confined to bed. Be means of the joint, the supporting surface of the reading stand can be adjusted as to slant as well as transverse tilt. The joint comprises a T-shaped component (12) supported in bearings (11) so as to be tiltable and lockable about its cross beam. The bearings (11) are mounted on a base plate (10). The base plate (10) itself is pivotable and lockably secured to a support plate (20). In order for a sick person to be able to adjust the joint with a minimum of physical exertion, locking levers (14 and 23) are provided for each of the two adjustable positions. The locking is effected by detent means (13--13' and 17-26).
