PURPOSE: To provide a multi-purpose public facsimile transmission terminal equipment which uses a kiosk provided with a touch-driven computer display color monitor device. CONSTITUTION: A user inserts a credit card to a card reader 15 and starts operation in accordance with instructions displayed on a screen 20. A scanner 16 provided in a kiosk 1 reads a facsimile document and stores an image in the memory of a computer 18. The facsimile document is received and transmitted through a telephone line by a facsimile modem of the computer. The facsimile document is presented by a flat paper laser printer 19. A multi-purpose public facsimile transmission terminal otherwise known as a public fax terminal, employs a stand alone kiosk with a touch activated computer display color monitor presentation, advising the user of the operational steps to take in the use of the machine. The user initiates operation by inserting a credit card in a card reader and following the instructions presented on the monitor. A scanner mounted in the kiosk reads a document to be faxed and stores the image in the memory of a computer. Faxed transmissions are received and sent over telephone lines by a fax modem in the computer. Copies of faxed documents are provided by a plain paper laser printer, which also has the capability of providing copies of any scanned documents or any documents in the computer memory. The computer memory presents video advertisements and has stored business and message forms which can be retrieved and used as desired. An interface connection open to the exterior of the terminal connects to a computer such as a laptop computer, provided by the user to download and fax information in the memory of the laptop computer. The terminal may also be used to retrieve documents from a remote data base system.

A display device for a computer is disposed on the shelf generally at eye level of the standing user and a keyboard is operatively connected to the display. The keyboard is disposed in a housing on the work surface and a lock is provided for locking the keyboard housing on the workstation. A locker suitable for clothes is securely disposed on the work surface. A portable tool chest suitably mounted on casters snugly fits under one portion of the work surface when not in use. A lock is provided for locking the portable tool chest under the work surface.

A restorable gang apparatus for telephone books which includes a main frame having a top shelf and spaced end plates depending downwardly generally at opposite ends of the shelf with one or more telephone books being normally storable on the bottom side of the shelf. A series of book mounting units are suspended in side by side relation from beneath the top shelf between the spaced end plates when in a storage position. Each unit is comprised of the following elements. An inclined track hanger means suspends the inclined track in an inclined position where an outer end of the track is more elevated than an inner or rearward end of the track. Telephone book carrier structure is disposed beneath and mounted on the telephone book carrier structure. Means are provided for mounting the telephone book onto the telephone book carrier structure. A truck having slidable bearing means is mounted on the track for back and forth movement on the inclined track. Rotatable pivot means suspend the telephone book carrier structure from the truck. A handle is operatively connected to the telephone book carrier structure and pullable in a direction to cause the truck to move upwardly on the track and for placement of the rotatable pivot means in adjacency to a front edge of the table top and for then enabling the telephone book carrier structure to rotate on its rotatable pivot means for positioning at least a portion of the telephone book carrier structure in overlying relation to the table top for placing the telephone book carrier structure and the telephone book in a viewing position.

This disclosure relates to a booth for telephones and the like having a back panel, side panels and shelf panels, all of which are secured together through recessed fastening means to hide the method of construction. The recessed fastening means are so arranged that the side panels are first secured to the edges of the back panels, and then the shelf panels are fixed to the side panels. For this purpose, pockets opening into the bottom of the shelf panels are formed in the side edges of the shelf panels. Shoulder screws projecting from the side panels pass into the pockets through the bottom openings and engage slotted clips in the pockets. At least one clip in every shelf panel has a locking flange to lock the shelf panels in place when secured to the side panels.
