A clamping device (1) is described for a hiking stick, trekking stick, Nordic walking stick, cross-country-skiing stick or downhill skiing stick for the releasable, axial securing of a tubular section (4) which can be pushed into an opening in the clamping device. In this case, the clamping device comprises a sleeve (2) which engages around the tubular section (4) at least in an axial section and clamps it in the closed state. The proposed structure is characterized in that the sleeve (2) has, at least in the region engaging around the tubular section (4), an axial slot (5) making the circumference of the sleeve variable in said region, and is of substantially encircling design in the remaining, axial region. Furthermore, it is characterized in that a respective clamping projection (8a, 8b) is arranged on the sleeve (2) on both sides of said slot (5), said clamping projection being engaged around by a clamping element (3) which has a recess (12), and in that, when the clamping element (3) is displaced or rotated on or around the clamping projections (8a, 8b), the clamping device (1) secures the tubular section (4) in its axial displaceability and/or in its rotatability about the longitudinal axis with respect to the clamping device (1).
185 CONNECTOR FOR STICK EP07851262.1 2007-12-05 EP2088891A1 2009-08-19 Sohn, Dae Up
The present invention proposes a locking mechanism for poles. The locking mechanism includes a support rod, inserted into a first unit shaft at a first end thereof and locked to a second unit shaft at a second end thereof, with threads formed around the outer circumferential surface thereof; and a pressure locking unit movably engaged with the threads of the support rod and having longitudinal slits formed to open in one direction and at least two pressure parts formed in a longitudinal direction. The locking pressure of the pressure locking unit is imposed on the unit shafts at multiple longitudinally spaced points, thus dispersing or distributing the locking strength in the longitudinal direction and increasing both the locking strength and the resistance against both longitudinal compressive force and longitudinal tensile force, thereby preventing the locked unit shafts from suddenly slipping towards each other.

188 FINE-GRAINED METALLIC COATINGS HAVING THE COEFFICIENT OF THERMAL EXPANSION MATCHED TO THE ONE OF THE SUBSTRATE EP05821023 2005-12-16 EP1732755A4 2007-08-01 PALUMBO GINO; MCCREA JONATHAN; TOMANTSCHGER KLAUS; BROOKS IAIN; JEONG DAEHYUN; LIMOGES DAVE; PANAGIOTOPOULOS KONSTANTINOS; ERB UWE
Fine-grained (average grain size 1nm to 1,000nm) metallic coatings optionally containing solid particulates dispersed therein are disclosed. The fine-grained metallic materials are significantly harder and stronger than conventional coatings of the same chemical composition due to Hall-Petch strengthening and have low linear coefficients of thermal expansion (CTEs). The invention provides means for matching the CTE of the fine-grained metallic coating to the one of the substrate by adjusting the composition of the alloy and/or by varying the chemistry and volume fraction of particulates embedded in the coating. The fine-grained metallic coatings are particularly suited for strong and lightweight articles, precision molds, sporting goods, automotive parts and components exposed to thermal cycling. The low CTEs and the ability to match the CTEs of the fine-grained metallic coatings with the CTEs of the substrate minimize dimensional changes during thermal cycling and prevent premature failure.

According to the invention, the position of telescopic tubes inserted one in the other, for sports poles, in particular, ski poles, can be fixed, whereby a clamping device (1) is provided within the tubes (3, 5). The clamping device (1) has a clamping piece (21) and expanding bodies (17, 19), provided on both ends of the clamping piece (21). The expanding bodies (17, 19) are screwed onto a threaded rod (11) with counter-running threads sections (13, 15). On relative rotation of the tubes (3, 5) the expanding bodies (17, 19) are forced into the clamping piece (21) from both ends thereof with an appropriate rotational direction and extend the same essentially evenly outwards over the whole length thereof such that the same rests on the inner surface of the outer tube (5) with a frictional connection and thus fixes the length of the pole, once adjusted. The tubes (3, 5) can thus be fixed with less force required than usual in the desired position relative to each other.

The invention relates to an adjustable-length tube (10) for poles, consisting of an external tube (12), an internal tube (11) that can be telescopically inserted into said external tube (12) to adjust the tube length and an expansion device (15) that is mounted at the insertion end of the internal tube (11) and is used to axially fix the internal tube (11) inside the external tube (12). Said expansion device comprises an expansion element (16), which is equipped with an inner cone (27) and can be radially spread, an internal element (17), which is equipped with an opposed cone (22) and is held in the expansion element (16) so that it can be axially displaced and an adjusting screw (18), which is positioned along the axis, is rotatably fixed to the internal tube (11) and co-operates with an internal threaded bore (21) in the internal element (17). In order for an adjustable length tube of this type to be fixed more tightly during impact-type axial stress, rather than shifting or giving way, the internal cone (27) of the expansion element (16) extends in such a way that it opens towards the internal tube (11) and the expansion element (16) is held between an inner stop (28) on the internal tube (11) and an outer stop (26) on the free end of the adjusting screw (18), so that it can be displaced within narrow limits.
