Apparatus for dressing a shoe-heel surface to be adhesively secured to a shoe-upper in which means are provided to move shoe-heels one-by-one into a work position confronting the work surface of a disc-shaped dressing brush mounted on an axis of rotation; the brush shaft being driven by an electro-motor or the like and being operatively connected to a rotatable mounting axis intersecting the axis of rotation of the brush and generally perpendicular thereto and a mechanism adjustable to automatically provide the convex working brush surface with an eliptical-shaped path during 360.degree. of rotation of the mounting axis for dressing a shoe surface from within the area of the shoe-heel perimeter toward the outer sides of the heel whereby a generally dish-shaped dressed surface is formed and the optimum adhering-edges are provided at the dressed heel surface; and in which the machine is adjustable for different shaped heels. |

A roughing machine for operating on a shoe assembly, comprised of a last having an insole located on its bottom and an upper mounted thereon with the upper margin lying against and being secured to the periphery of the insole, by roughing the upper margin. The machine includes a roughing tool that is mounted to a tool mount. The tool mount includes a pair of tines that are yieldably urged against the bottom of the shoe assembly that is supported bottom-up in the machine and a sensing member that is movable from an idle position to a position of engagement with the side of the shoe assembly. A triggering arrangement causes the sensing member to move into engagement with the side of the shoe assembly in response to the engagement of the tines with the bottom of the shoe assembly. |

BRAUN DIETER |
A method and apparatus for manufacturing shoes, especially for working the lower edge of the upper over the periphery of the bottom of the shoe. A cup shaped rotary tool is mounted for rotation on an axis inclined to the shoe sole and with a region of the rim of the tool engaging the sole near the periphery. The tool follows a closed path about the shoe sole and wipes the edge of the upper toward the center of the sole. The tool is rotated on its axis. The tool is caused to traverse the sole longitudinally along each side of the sole and is rotated bodily at each end of the sole to cause the region of the rim of the tool engaging the sole to follow a closed path around the sole with the said region also moving substantially perpendicularly to said path toward the center of the sole due to the rotation of the tool on its axis.

BRAUN D |
A shoe treatment machine in which a tool is provided which operates on the edge of the sole portion which is turned over the top of a last. The tool moves longitudinally of the last and which last pivots about a longitudinal axis so that the tool operates on the upper material near the periphery of the sole portion of the last. A control arrangement is provided operated by potentiometers which are adjustable in conformity with the size of the shoe last and with the longitudinal position of the tool to control the pivotal movement of the last during a work cycle.

A THROUGH FEED FINISHING MACHINE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE AN OPERATION SUCH AS SOLE REDUCTION ON DEFINED MARGINS OR EDGES OF AN UNATTACHED SHOE SOLE INITIATED RELATIVE TO THE BALL POINT OF THE SOLE. THE MACHINE INCLUDES PAIRS OF FINISHING TOOLS, FOR EXAMPLE, ROTATABLE REDUCING TOOLS MOUNTED IN BIASED RELATIONSHIP TO OPERATE ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF A SOLE. PRESSURE EQUALIZING MEANS ARE MOUNTED OPPOSITE EACH OF THE TOOLS TO ASSIST IN KEEPING THE SOLE MOVING ALONG A PATH OF TRAVEL THROUGH THE MACHINE AND INSURE UNIFORM FINISHING BY EACH OF THE TOOLS DURING THE FINISHING OPERATION OF THE LENGTHWISE MARGINS AT PREDETERMINED POINTS DEFINED RELATIVE TO THE BALL POINTS OF THE SOLE. THE SOLE IS URGED THROUGH THE MACHINE BY DRIVE ROLLS AND IS STABILIZED BY HOLDDOWN ROLLS ACTING IN PAIRS.

A MACHINE FOR ROUGHING THE BOTTOMS OF SHOES HAVING A PAIR OF ROUGHING TOOLS AND A SUPPORT FOR A SHOE DURING RELATIVE MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE TOOLS AND THE SUPPORT TO CAUSE THE SHOE TO PASS BY THE TOOLS AND A TEMPLATE FOR POSITIONING THE TOOLS IN WHICH THE TEMPLATE IS AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTED IN BOTH LENGTHWISE AND WIDTHWISE DIRECTIONS TO ACCOMMODATE SHOES OF DIFFERENT SIZES AND IS AUTOMATICALLY REVERSED BY ROTATION ABOUT ITS LONGITUDINAL AXIS, TO ACCOMMODATE RIGHT OR LEFT SHOES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SIZE AND CHARACTER OF THE SHOE ON THE SUPPORT. THE SHOE SUPPORT ALSO EMBODIES AN ABUTMENT FOR DETERMINING THE HEIGHTWISE POSITION OF THE TOE END OF EACH SHOE PLACED THEREON AND A HEEL SUPPORT MOVABLE IN RESPONSE TO THE ENGAGEMENT OF THE HEEL END OF A SHOE THEREWITH FOR ACTUATING CONTROL MEANS TO INITIATE AN AUTOMATIC OPERATING CYCLE OF THE MACHINE.
