A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing an ornament for gift wrapping purposes and the like. The ornament has a basic member with a plurality of radially disposed conical elements, and these basic members may be combined to produce spheroidal or hemispheroidal ornaments having a plurality of radial cones or spikes. In the method, a flat circular blank (14) is formed with a plurality of radially disposed leaves (15). The leaves are wrapped around a conical form (20) and adhesively secured to form one of the basic members. The apparatus includes a winder (18) for wrapping the leaves around the conical form and positioning means (16) for holding the blank and locating each leaf on the form to be wrapped into a conical element by the winder. |

11 | Strung popcorn seeds and method concerning same | US10782711 | 2004-02-19 | US20040166251A1 | 2004-08-26 | Stephen D. Johnson |
The invention provides a method for creating a garland of popped seeds, a method for creating a string of unpopped seeds, and a method of manufacturing such a string. The method includes stringing a plurality of unpopped seeds and applying energy to the plurality of unpopped seeds. Another embodiment is directed to stringing a plurality of unpopped seeds on a string and organizing the seeds on the string to enable popping of the unpopped seeds by applying energy. The seeds can be popcorn seeds or any other seed that is capable of popping.
12 | Method and apparatus for making spiral garland | US09447038 | 1999-11-19 | US06260342B1 | 2001-07-17 | William L. Lehman |
A machine is provided for forming a decorative twisted spiral garland from at least one continuous ribbon web, and a pair of continuous wires. One or more ribbon webs are guided to the outside of a pair of elongated threaded rods which are respectively disposed on opposite sides of and generally parallel to a main axis. The rods form part of a loop frame which is rotated about the main axis to wind the ribbon webs around the rods in a series of continuous loops and draw the webs from supply reels, while the rods are simultaneously rotated about their own axes to advance the ribbon loops along the main axis. A wire supply rotates in synchronism with the loop frame, guiding a pair of wires into paths respectively on opposite sides of the ribbon loops and thence along the main axis between pinch rollers for pulling the wires longitudinally along the axis. The rotation of the wire supply twists the wires and the ribbon loops to form the garland. The final shape of the garland is determined by the amount of twist imparted to it, which can be controlled, in part, by collecting the garland in a rotating drum to partially “untwist” the garland. Filaments may also be guided from supply reels rotating with the loop frame into paths inside the loops, so as to be twisted with the ribbon loops, the twisting drawing the filaments to the axis in the finished garland.
13 | Decorative bow | US09560035 | 2000-04-27 | US06237819B1 | 2001-05-29 | James R. Ramirez |
The decorative bow is provided which includes a plurality of ribbon-like strands that are folded in alternating directions to give the strand a zigzagging shape. The zigzagging strands of the decorative bow are held together at a common point with the ends of the strands running loose to provide a “cascading” look. This structure of the decorative bow can be used to provide many variations in the overall look by, for example, using ribbon materials with different colors and reflective effects or adjusting the lengths of the strands in the bow to give a layered appearance. The decorative bow may be secured to a base member (commonly called a “bow chip”), which may have a section for receiving printed indicia for display and an adhesive backing that allows the decorative bow to be attached easily to a desired object.
14 | Decorative garland | US651664 | 1991-02-06 | US5091226A | 1992-02-25 | William F. Protz, Jr. |
A decorative garland. A product and method of manufacture of garland includes a web having transversely cut center and border sections, and the center section has widely spaced transverse cuts and the border sections have narrower spaced transverse cuts. The cut film web is folded and then stuffed using a wire spine to hold a high density of cut film web. The stuffed web is then twisted causing formation of a helically rotated array of loops of the widely spaced transverse cut sections, and a tinsel-like material is positioned nearest the wire spine formed from the narrower spaced transverse cut sections of the web.
15 | Method and apparatus for manufacturing decorative garland | US223044 | 1988-07-22 | US4964932A | 1990-10-23 | Leonard G. D. Miller |
A decorative garland is manufactured by feeding one or more strips of material to an elongated, rotatable mandrel having a longitudinal axis so that each strip of material makes a plurality of passes in the direction of the longitudinal axis as the mandrel is rotated to form a wound bundle having a plurality of layers. A length of tape having adhesive on both sides is secured lengthwise of the mandrel to the material wound onto the mandrel after each pass. At least one more pass is made so that the material is fixed to both sides of the tape. The wound bundle is then cut from the mandrel along a line in the direction of the longitudinal axis opposite the tape connection so that the wound bundle can be removed from the mandrel with every piece of material being disposed in direct adhesive contact with one of the lengths of adhesive tape so that the assembly will be completely held together during handling prior to a twisting step.

The present invention provides a decorative ornament that includes a garland, having a center wire and a tinsel strip wound around the center wire. The tinsel strip is divided into a plurality of narrow strands. The invention further includes light string, having an electric wire and a plurality of lights connected together by the electric wire. The light string is wound around the center wire of the garland in a direction opposite to the direction the tinsel strip is wound around the center wire.

One or more twig garlands are fed, cut and assembled to one end portion of a limb garland. The other end portion of the limb garland is bent by the machine at a suitable angle for entrance into an inclined hole in a tree trunk. The twig garlands are also bent by the machine smoothly, curvilineally and progresively throughout the lengths thereof after being cut and clipped to the limb garland.
