A cuff assembly (24) is provided for the hand opening end of the sleeve of a protective garment. The cuff assembly (24) ensures tight fit and retention of the cuff within a subsequently donned glove. Specifically, the cuff assembly allows for passage therethrough of four digits and the adjacent portions of the palm of the wearer and is further provided with thumb restraining means (40) which allow the passage of the thumb therethrough but restrain the remainder of the wearer's hand.

PURPOSE: To obtain a protective clothing wearable without staining its outer surface, a gown-shaped long outerwear having both inner and outer surfaces and front, back, hem and collar, being in folded state so as to be easy to wear. CONSTITUTION: This protective clothing is a gown-like long outerwear having both inner and outer surfaces and front, back, hem and collar and provided with a neck hole opposite to the hem hole and a sleeve 22 having a cuff meeting with a wearer's hand; wherein, the long outerwear is successively folded back from the lowermost position into three portions, and with the hem hole 30 and neck hole 28 left open, virtually all of the parts of this long outerwear succeeding to the neck hole 28 are foldedly superposed on the folded portions, the sleeve 22, while being folded, is pulled in the direction of the hem hole 30 and folded in such a fashion that a wearer threads his arm easily through the sleeve hole via the hem hole 30 lying open, the portion succeeding to the neck hole 28 is pulled in the direction of the hem hole 30 while being folded, and folded in such a fashion that the wearer threads his head through the neck hole 28 via the hem hole 30 lying open, thus ensuring this protective clothing to be worn without staining the outer surface of the long outerwear. A protective garment is provided with features which facilitate the donning thereof in accordance with current aseptic principles and which maintains a tight fit to preclude contamination during use and which is both comfortable and usable by a wide range of differently sized wearers. Specifically, a gown (12) is folded in such a way as to present only inside surfaces (39,41) to the assistant who aids the donner in donning the gown. Additionally, the gown is provided with cuffs (24) and collar (18) having stretch and recovery properties to aid in donning and front and back pleats to aid in donning as well as accommodating wearers of different size.

A garment is provided that includes an outer tubular garment portion and an inner tubular garment portion that are each fabricated from the same, continuous piece of protective material. By being formed from continuous portion of material, a user is provided with protection from ingress of fluids around an appendage when such fluid might be otherwise introduced through breaks in the material that rely entirely on a circumferential seam to secure separate pieces of material together. The inner tubular portion is not removable or severable from the outer tubular garment portion but is extendible to allow a user flexibility of use (e.g., stretching) without sacrificing performance. A method of creating a circumferentially continuous fluid impervious seal is also provided.

A shirt cuff expander for facilitating the expansion of a shirt cuff. The shirt cuff expander comprises a first and second end connected by a connecting member. The connecting member may be a band-like member having first and second ends and may optionally include an elastic portion. The cuff expander first end may have a button attached to it as its fastening mechanism or another type of obstruction that prevents the extender from slipping through a button-hole. The second end may have, a similar obstruction to prevent slippage through a button-hole or may have a button-hole stitched into its second end. This arrangement allows the first and second ends to be fastened to a button cuff or a link cuff or any other type of shirt cuff. This allows the expander and shirt cuff to transition easily between the traditional closed, first position in which the two ends of the shirt cuff are axially aligned with each other and the open, second position, in which the two ends of the shirt cuff are laterally displaced from one another. This versatility allows for the shirt sleeves to be pushed up or pulled down quickly and easily. The optional elastic portion may also help retain the shirt sleeves in the raised position.
