Land cultivating systems and methods utilizing high-pressure fluid jet cutting techniques are disclosed. An example system includes a mobile unit, a traveler arrangement operably coupled to the mobile unit to ride on the surface of stubble residues as the mobile unit moves across land to be cultivated, and a fluid jet cutting head supported by the traveler arrangement. The cutting head is configured to selectively discharge a high-pressure fluid jet to make a cut through the stubble residues and underlying soil as the mobile unit moves across the land. A soil opening device is provided to form a furrow in the ground in line with the cut made by the high-pressure fluid jet, and a liquid injector nozzle is provided to discharge fertilizer or other chemical(s) into the soil. |

A combination of a reversible plough with a plurality of soil preparation devices including an improved height control system. The apparatus includes a headstock by means of which the combination can be mounted on lifting arms at the rear of a propelling vehicle. The soil preparation devices are each mounted on a movable part of a plough frame via a respective swivel coupling that allows the device to be towed and also to be suspended during plough body reversal. A common hydraulic pressure control circuit is provided to control the height of each soil preparation device relative to its respective swivel coupling, and to provide automatic self-compensating adjustment of each device as they follow the contour of the ground. |

A reversible plough, that in one embodiment is of the semi-mounted type, and comprises a main beam, a coupling structure at the forward end of the main beam, and a carrying beam. Pairs of plough bodies are mounted along the length of the carrying beam. The carrying beam is pivotably connected to the main beam to move between a first and a second ploughing position for plough body reversal. The reversible plough further includes a coupling beam that is secured to the carrying beam, and a soil preparation device such as a packer that prepares the soil turned over by the plough bodies for seed. The coupling beam projects laterally from the coupling beam in either ploughing position and is moveable with the carrying beam during plough body reversal. A hopper is mounted at a fixed location relative to the packer and the reversible plough combination, and a distributor is mounted on the packer and arranged to distribute the hopper content onto the ground. The hopper contents are conveyed by a flexible distribution system that includes a line extending between the hopper and the distributor. |

A combination of a semi-mounted reversible plough (10) and a seed preparation device (11) are towed behind a tractor in order to carry out a ploughing action and a seed preparation action during a single pass over the ground. The plough has a short leading towing beam (12) provided with a forward hitch (13) for coupling the plough to the rear of the tractor; a long towing beam (15) coupled with beam (12); a carrying beam (20) coupled with long towing beam (15); a cylinder operated crank mechanism (17, 18) operable to rotate towing beam (15) and carrying beam (20) as a unit about the longitudinal axis (19) of beam (15) in order to reverse the position of the plough bodies; a coupling beam (24) mounted at its forward end via a mounting beam (43) on the carrying frame (20) and towing beam (15) and projecting laterally therefrom; a swivel connector (25) at the trailing end of coupling beam (24) which is attached to the leading end of a draw bar (41) of the device (11); and a cylinder operated parallelogram linkage (24, 29). Preferably, a seed unit (34), is coupled with the seed preparation device, so that ploughing, soil preparation and seeding can take place during a single passage across a field, and the entire combination can automatically adjust itself during reversal of the plough bodies and turning of the combination in the headland. |

A soil breaking apparatus for use with a bottom plow comprises a beam pivotally attached by a bolt to the bottom plow; a port arm and a starboard arm fixedly attached to the beam; and a two-way hydraulic cylinder for pivoting the arms and the beams, such that the arms are oriented substantially parallel to the soil despite the tilting of the bottom plow. The soil breaking apparatus is suitable for use with bottom plows, such as bidirectional moldboard plows. The clumps or clods of soil turned up during plowing are broken up by soil breaking rods that depend from and are spaced along the arms. An improved plow combines the features of the soil breaking apparatus with those of a reversible bottom plow. |
