181 Depth-limited furrow closing arrangement and method for no-till agricultural seeders US09865911 2001-05-24 US20020174813A1 2002-11-28 Matthew P. Hagny
A seed firming and furrow closing system for no-till agricultural seeders has a smooth in-furrow firming device that gauges the depth and limits penetration of the closing wheel(s). The firming device is mounted behind a seed furrow opener, and one or more spoked closing wheels are rotatably mounted behind the firming device. Each closing wheel is mounted to a support member for the firming device. An adjustable stop is provided to control the operating depth of the closing wheel relative to the firming device. During operation, the firming device moves along the bottom of the furrow to firm the seeds, and the adjustable stop maintains a selected depth of the closing wheel relative to the firming device and the bottom of the furrow. A swivel assembly allows the firming device and closing wheels to swivel from side-to-side to better track the furrow when planting around a curve.
182 Quick change seed boot US09416317 1999-10-12 US06363871B1 2002-04-02 Ryan Murray Puetz; Linus Ian Yeager
A unique quick change system constitutes the present invention. The invention comprises a two-piece seed boot holder and spreader for use with air seeding devices used in agriculture. The seed boot holder is adapted to bolt onto the shank of an ordinary cultivator behind a seeding opener. The spreader portion of the seed boot matingly engages the holder and is secured by an easily removable pin. Depending upon the desired spread of the seed and fertilizer and the size of the trench created by the seeding opener, various spreader attachments can be used. Thus, the invention allows the farmer to quickly change the spread of seed and/or fertilizer to match his quick change seeding opener without effort and no reconstruction.
183 Extension for reducing seed bounce and associated attachment brackets US881177 1997-06-23 US6082275A 2000-07-04 Paul E. Schaffert
An extension for use with a furrow opener is disclosed for properly placing seeds in a furrow. The extension attaches by way of particular attachment brackets to the furrow opener to help direct bouncing seeds into the vertex in the bottom portion of the furrow. The extension comprises an elongated flexible body member defining a general arcuate shape, and also defines an upper segment and a lower segment. The upper segment defines an attachment structure for releasable engagement to the furrow opener. The lower segment depends downwardly and rearwardly from the furrow opener and extends into the furrow. The lower segment has a width dimension decreasing continuously along its length, the width dimension substantially equal to but less than the width of the furrow along the length of the extension. The lower segment terminates at a trailing end, which is spaced above the centrally located bottom portion of the furrow.
184 Tube alignment bracket US438619 1995-05-10 US5598795A 1997-02-04 John L. House
A tube alignment bracket for mounting on or shaped integrally with the seed distribution tube of a seed planter to align multiple planter insecticide tubes in close proximity to, and in a vertical plane with, the discharge opening of the seed distribution tube and insure that liquid insecticide or fungicide dispensed through the insecticide tubes are deposited in a furrow in close proximity to seeds expelled from the seed distribution tube. In a preferred embodiment the tube alignment bracket is characterized by an elongated, I beam-shaped leg plate strengthened by a pair of braces, one end of which leg plate extends from a bracket plate which is slotted and is strapped to or formed integrally with the seed distribution tube. The leg plate is fitted with at least one pair of openings or a slot to receive and position the insecticide tubes in close, fixed proximity with respect to the discharge opening of the seed distribution tube.
185 Tube alignment spacer bracket US348361 1994-11-30 US5490470A 1996-02-13 John L. House
A tube alignment spacer bracket for mounting on a tube alignment bracket which is, in turn, mounted on or shaped integrally with the seed distribution tube of a seed planter, to align the planter insecticide tube or tubes in close proximity to, and in a vertical plane with, the discharge opening of the seed distribution tube and insure that liquid insecticide or fungicide dispensed through the insecticide tube or tubes is deposited in a furrow in close proximity to seeds expelled from the seed distribution tube. In a preferred embodiment the tube alignment spacer bracket is characterized by a Z-shaped bracket having a pair of slots, one of which receives one end of a tube alignment bracket fitted with a tube mount and the opposite slot of which receives one or more tube fittings, to which are attached one or more insecticide tubes. The tube alignment spacer bracket is oriented to position the insecticide tube or tubes in close, fixed proximity with respect to the discharge opening of the seed distribution tube.
186 Suspension for coulter wheel assembly US935834 1992-08-26 US5335610A 1994-08-09 David W. Weber
An improved suspension for a coulter wheel assembly of the type primarily intended for attachment to a tractor wherein the improved suspension is characterized by its construction including a plurality of pivotal support bars interconnecting a set of double disc openers with following press wheels is disclosed. The improved suspension includes a unique back angle pivot attachment of the coulter wheel assemblies to one of the pivoting support arms so that the coulter wheels and press wheels accurately track the direction of travel of a tractor, even when the direction of travel changes rapidly and frequently. A material may be deposited in the furrow created by the double disc openers attached to the improved suspension of this invention, and the depth of the furrow cut by the double disc opener may be adjusted.
187 Trip mechanism for drill seed boot US260455 1988-10-20 US4860672A 1989-08-29 Robert Zimmerman
A seed drill including depending furrow openers having a lower shovel and a supporting seed boot. Each seed boot is pivotally supported on a longitudinal drag bar assembly connected to it about a transverse pivotal connection. The forwardly extending arm at the upper end of the seed boot selectively engages one end of a longitudinal leaf spring mounted to the drag arm assembly. A preselected planting position for the shovel and seed boot is defined by an overlying adjustable stop. An arcuate abutment surface is interposed between the seed boot arm and leaf spring. A stop is interposed between the drag arm assembly and leaf spring for limiting upward movement of the free spring end.
188 Seed drill having parallel guide means for the movable shank US830380 1977-09-02 US4208974A 1980-06-24 Heinz Dreyer; Benno Wiemeyer
A seed drill (FIG. 1 ) having a frame (1 ) with knife hoes (7 ) mounted thereon. The knife hoes are movable in a vertical plane and each has two laterally projecting wings (8 ) bent downwardly toward one another; the outer edges of the wings merge forwardly together to form a point. Each knife hoe has an upright strut (13 ) supporting the leading point of the knife. Further, each knife hoe is disposed on a shank (9 ) which is mounted on the frame with parallel guide means (10 ). The parallel guide means has at least one articulation (19 ) acting in a vertical plane, a stop (21 ) limiting forward swinging movement of the knife hoe about the articulation, and at least one resilient element (22 ) exerting a force on the knife hoe in the direction of the stop. The drill further includes a gauge wheel (16 ) for each knife hoe to limit the depth of penetration of the knife hoe into the soil.
189 Coulter beam mounting assembly including articulate joint means US887395 1978-03-16 US4155316A 1979-05-22 Alfred J. Bailey; Ronald S. Sargent
Seed drill has a row of coulters which are raised and lowered by a beam extending along and above the row of coulters and connected to the coulters by spring assemblies. The beam is raised and lowered relative to the frame of the drill by two rams to actuate the coulters. The mounting of the beam comprises an articulated joint, such as a ball joint, which permits the ends of the beam to rise and fall independently of each other relative to the frame thereby permitting improved contour following by the coulters and avoiding excessive loads on the beam in the event of failure of one of the rams.
