PURPOSE: A light leakage free liquid crystal display device is provided to control a bending direction of a liquid crystal panel by designing the contraction rates of polarization plates of upper/lower substrates to reduce the degree of bending the liquid crystal panel, thereby reducing light leakage. CONSTITUTION: An upper polarization plate(101) and a lower polarization plate(111) have phase difference films, protective films, and adhesives. The protective films are laminated on both sides of the phase difference films. The adhesives are bonded with a liquid crystal panel. A backlight unit(140) is installed on a rear side of the liquid crystal panel. The backlight unit emits light onto the entire surface of the liquid crystal panel. A case component couples the liquid crystal panel with the backlight unit.

The layer is made of media which can be switched between optical isotropy and anisotropy by applying an electric field.

A thin film type retardation film and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to shorten the manufacturing process, by forming an alignment film and a liquid crystal coating layer on a base film through spin coating. An alignment layer(200) is formed on a base film(300) by spreading an alignment film coating solution on the base film through spin coating. The alignment layer is dried by rotating the base film with the alignment film. The alignment film is hardened through irradiation of UV, and rubbed. A liquid crystal coating layer(100) is formed on the alignment film by spreading a liquid crystal coating solution on the alignment film through spin coating. The liquid crystal coating layer is dried by rotating the base film with the alignment film and the liquid crystal coating layer. The liquid crystal coating layer is hardened through irradiation of UV.

PURPOSE: An LCD having a substrate used as a phase retardation film is provided to attach a substrate having phase retardation onto the top and bottom faces of a liquid crystal cell to reduce the thickness of an LCD panel and improve contrast of the LCD. CONSTITUTION: A substrate(5) attached to one side of a liquid crystal cell has phase retardation function and an optical axis. A phase retardation film attached onto the top or bottom face of the substrate is omitted. A polarizer(8) is attached onto the top and bottom faces of the substrate. The substrate is one of a glass substrate, a plastic substrate and a film. An additional phase retardation film is attached to the top or bottom face or both faces of the substrate in order to control a phase retardation value.
