235 HINGELESS EYEWEAR TEMPLE EP97952227.0 1997-12-11 EP0944854A1 1999-09-29 BRUNE, Henri; BRHEL, Richard, L.
A hingeless temple for eyewear comprises a unitary length of flexible material such as a shape-memory metal or metal alloy which has a forward section, an elongated section and a flexible pivot section between the forward and elongated sections. The pivot section is characterized by three bends which form a generally serpentine configuration. In the unbiased position, the temple extends in the open position with respect to the eyewear front. Means are provided for selectively and releasably closing the temple in the folded position with respect to the eyewear front. When the closing means are released, the temple automatically pivots to the open position. The front end of the temple may be attached directly to the eyewear front, thereby negating the need for a separate hinge assembly.
236 BRILLENGESTELL MIT AN DIE FASSUNG DER BRILLENGLÄSER ANGELENKTEN HALTEBÜGELN EP94909091.0 1994-03-01 EP0639282A1 1995-02-22 TESCH, Bernhard
Described is a glasses frame with side arms which are connected to the lens mounting by hinges by means of which they can be moved from a position of rest in which they are folded against the lens mounting out into a position of wear. The invention calls for the hinges to be made up of two parts, each part having a bearing pin and, coaxial with the pin, a bushing. When aligned with each other, the two hinge parts can be coupled together by moving them along the bearing-pin axis to form a hinge and, when coupled together, can be secured in place by locking elements. The hinge parts are rotationally symmetrical and can be coupled together to form hinge elements when rotated with respect to each other. In an extreme case the minimum number of parts necessary to form a hinge can be reduced to a single type of part. This is particularly the case when the locking elements are integral with the hinge parts.
237 FRAME JOINT AND HINGE FOR EYEWEAR EP16767380.5 2016-09-14 EP3350647A1 2018-07-25 GUNNARSSON, Gunnar H.B.
A hinge and joint for a pair of eyeglasses is disclosed. A split frame has upper and lower rim end pieces that bend and extend rearwardly. A vertically-extending hollow shaft is provided on the end of a temple. A spring or springs are positioned laterally between the rim end pieces and the shaft, such that the shaft bears against the spring or springs. A U-shaped housing fits over the exterior top, bottom, and side of the joint and has a pair of aligned slots in top and bottom flanges. A pin is placed through the aligned slots in the housing and the shaft of the temple. Lateral force provided by the spring or springs biases the joint away from the aligned position, and that force, in combination with upper and lower shoulders on the pin, keep the joint and hinge together.

A mount for spectacles is described and comprises a first front frame (2) made of plastics material and having respective lens-holding rims (3) with a closed contour, disposed to receive and support respective lens (5), and a second frame (8) made of metallic material inserted inside the first frame (2) and solidly fixed thereto, the second frame (8) including respective portions (8a) in the shape of a closed ring and extending respectively along the outline of the corresponding lens-holding rim (3), the mount being produced by stratification of the plastics material of the first frame (2) on the second frame (8), by applying at least one sheet of plastics material of the first frame (2) on each of the front and rear opposite surfaces of the second frame (8), the assembly thus obtained being made rigid. At least one section (9) of the second frame (8), at the location of each lens-holding rim (3), has a profile extending longitudinally in a sinuous shape, substantially of serpentine configuration, capable of imparting to said at least one section (9) of the second frame an ability to yield resiliently, principally in the direction of longitudinal extension and greater than that of the remainder of the portion (8a) of the second frame (8), so as to permit the assembly/disassembly of the lens in the respective lens-holding rim exclusively by means of resilient deformation of said rim.
