1 Isothermally heatsunk diffusion cloud chamber refrigerator US900983 1986-08-27 US4662180A 1987-05-05 Serafin G. Menocal
A means of refrigeration is provided for a diffusion cloud chamber, which effects the temperatures required for operation of the cloud chamber by heatsinking a Peltier thermoelectric element with a two-phase saturated substance at equilibrium and constant pressure. Use is made of the fact that a two phase saturated substance at equilibrium and constant pressure is thermodynamically fixed in temperature. By sinking a Peltier thermoelectric element to this substance, the entire temperature difference across the Peltier thermoelectric element is offset below the saturation temperature of the two-phase substance. A diffusion cloud chamber incorporating this refrigerator could utilize ice-water cooling rather than dry ice, and therefore be easily set up in any classroom.
2 Apparatus for obtaining radiographs US679550 1976-04-22 US4047031A 1977-09-06 Lee Fitzpatrick Frank
Apparatus for making X-ray pictures by imagewise exposing a cloud chamber containing a high atomic number gas mixed with a condensate vapor. The gas is under sufficiently high pressure to assure substantially complete absorption of the incident X-rays. Optical means are provided so that visible X-ray tracks are viewed from a direction aligned with the tracks.

An improved heat transfer device particularly suited for use as an evaporator plate in a diffusion cloud chamber. The device is characterized by a pair of mutually spaced heat transfer plates, each being of a planar configuration, having a pair of opposed surfaces defining therebetween a heat pipe chamber. Within the heat pipe chamber, in contiguous relation with the pair of opposed surfaces, there is disposed a pair of heat pipe wicks supported in a mutually spaced relationship by a foraminous spacer of a planar configuration. A wick including a foraminous layer is contiguously related to the external surfaces of the heat transfer plates for uniformly wetting these surfaces.
