The invention relates to a device for time-controlled self-destruction of a projectile by means of a batteryless, electronic self-destruct device. Several capacitors charged by a piezo element or a surge generator during firing are used in the flight phase for operational purposes. At least two of the capacitors are connected to the input of a comparator, so that the influence of a constantly modifiable operational voltage and the influence of a discharge of modifiable voltage levels by the piezo element or surge generator does not affect the time function.

A safety device (1) for an impact fuse (2) of a grenade (3) which can be given a spin on being shot through a barrel of a weapon comprises a muzzle safety device (4) and a self-destruction unit (5); the muzzle safety device (4) has a rotor (7) having a detonator, fitted to rotate eccentrically about a longitudinal axis (A) and engaging in a pinion escapement (9); said rotor (7), under centrifugal force but braked by the escapement (9), pivots the detonator (10) from an initial position to a ready-to-fire position, and the self-destruction unit (5) consists of a pyrotechnic delaying composition (13) ignitable via a firing pin (15) after the shot to fire the detonator (10) independently of an impact. To reduce the space required and constructive effort and improve reliability, the delaying composition (13) is fitted in the rotor (7) and is in firing contact with the detonator (10) at the combustion side end.

An ammunition unit is disposed for firing from a gun. The ammunition unit is provided with a fuze which includes electronics with an associated electrical trajectory safety device (BA) which prevents arming of the ammunition unit within a trajectory safety distance. A movable portion (8) may be activated with the aid of an arming igniter (10) which is actuable with the electrical trajectory safety device (BA). upon its activation, the movable portion executes an instantaneous movement in which it moves a bursting cap (12) disposed in the movable portion into an arming position (12′) in register with the initiation detonator (11) which is included in a detonation chain actuable by means of an impact or a proximity fuze contact. The movable portion (8) is also lockable by locking means in the form of a pin which is actuable on a retardation in the ammunition unit caused by a first hit of the ammunition unit against a first object located within the trajectory safety distance. Upon its activation, the locking device realizes a locking of the movable portion which is thereafter prevented from executing the above-mentioned instantaneous movement even if the first hit were to cause such mechanical action on the electronics as entails activation of the arming igniter. Thereby, the ammunition unit will, on a second hit, assume the safe position entailing that total bursting of the ammunition unit through the intermediary of the bursting cap is prevented if such bursting is caused by shock-triggering of the bursting cap in the unsafe position. |

A safety device for use in the detonation of explosives, mines etc. Explosives are commonly detonated by a two stage operation, an explosive pellet is moved from a safe to an active position and then a hammer or electrical charge is fired to detonate the pellet. Failure of the second stage operation leaves the explosive in an unsafe condition, since the hammer or charge might fall as the fault is being investigated. The invention provides movement of the pellet (2) from one safe position (A) to another (C) continuously and through an active position (B). If the hammer (3) fails to fall as the pellet passes through the active position the device will assume a safe condition. |
