The invention concerns a method and system for activating an ammunition load. The invention also concerns an ammunition equipped with a high-precision activating device. The invention further concerns a system for neutralizing a target. A laser beam (21) is used illuminating an object (3) located proximate the target (X), the firing of the ammunition load (23) is activated based on the detection by the ammunition of the laser spot (24) back-scattered by the object (3). The firing is activated for an interval Δt1 after the time t0 of the detection of the laser spot (24). The invention is applicable for hitting hidden targets when it is not necessary to make a direct impact on said targets.

The less-than-lethal ballistic (10) comprises a concussion element (13), a phosphorescent (13), and a chemical irritant (11). The nose of the ballistic comprise an energy-absorbing cavity (20) and a switch (21) preventing detonation of the ballistic (10) on impact.
49 | Active armour protection system for armoured vehicles | EP04253379.4 | 2004-06-07 | EP1605225A1 | 2005-12-14 | Lloyd, Peter Gregory |
A sensor system (1) for defending armoured vehicles (2) against projectiles through the use of active armour. A thermal sensor detects a projectile's presence, and a laser proximity sensor determines its location. A doppler sensor distinguishes between threatening and nonthreatening projectiles by measuring the projectile's velocity. The sensors are postioned in a housing (23) with a segmented spherical window (25), wherein each sensor can detect the projectile through a window segment having a filtering characteristic which is matched to its associated sensor. An eyelid shutter (27) which can open and close, protects the window from small arms fire and shrapnel. A conical deflector (29) protects the sensor system from objects such as tree branches. Heater elements are used to clear ice and snow from the window, and the eyelid shutter removes other material through the use of a cleaning liquid delivery system and rubber wipers. |

The invention relates to a sensor system with a number of sensor stations for surveillance of an area intended to include an object to be protected. The sensor stations (1-4) are essentially distributed along the periphery of a circle (5). Each sensor station comprises a detector unit (11) arranged to scan the arc in an azimuth sector allocated to it in two detection fields (9,10). The time of passage T of a target which passes the two detection fields is measured and the target position is calculated on the basis of the measured time T, the target speed Vmissile, the angle between the detection fields a and the angle to the target β. In the sensor system, the scanning is carried out from below and up towards the background of the sky. This implies that the scanning is not interfered by the surrounding terrain and that a large IR area is obtained. The sensor system according to the invention increases the possibilities of detecting low-flying missiles and similar targets in comparison with conventional technology |

A fuse (16) has a detector device (17) comprising a sensor (48) of infra-red radiation and a single flat-convex lens (19), the refracted rays of the received radiation of which are selectively blocked in such a way as to allow passage towards the sensor only of rays contained in very narrow cones of view (45). For this purpose a plate (37) provided with a series of angularly equidistant apertures (41) is adapted to receive the rays refracted from a zone (27) of the conical lateral surface (23) of the lens. The zone (27) is adjacent the flat surface (22) of the lens and directs the refracted rays to a cylindrical surface (43) which reflects them towards the optical axis (26) of the lens. |
