An automatic rifle bolt carrier with a fluted boss for the AR15/M16 family of firearms has been provided. The rear of the bolt carrier has been provided with a boss having bearing surfaces which are in operational contact with the interior of the host firearm's upper receiver to prevent the carrier from tilting while it is reciprocating during normal operation. The boss and rearward end of the bolt carrier are provided with flutes which allow water to flow between the buffer tube and upper receiver while the bolt carrier is reciprocating during normal operation, enabling a properly equipped firearm to be used during over the beach operations. The bolt carrier also includes a semi-circular relief cut about the top of its backmost end which is perpendicular to the axis of the bolt carrier.

A firearm assembly for a firearm can include a monolithic rail platform with a handguard portion and an upper receiver portion. The barrel of the firearm can be positioned through the bandguard portion and secured with the upper receiver portion. A firearm assembly can also include a bolt assembly with a bolt carrier having minimized land area and a forward end sized for receipt in the barrel extension at the rearward end of the barrel.
108 Firearm mechanism having slide with interchangeable breech face US09982500 2001-10-18 US06732465B2 2004-05-11 Sandy L. Strayer
A firearm, such as a handgun, rifle, machine gun, etc. has a frame assembly having a barrel defining a cartridge chamber and includes a magazine for serially positioning cartridges at a pickup location relative to said frame assembly and barrel. A reciprocating member, such as a slide or bolt is provided in the firearm assembly for moving cartridges from said pickup location into the cartridge chamber of the barrel and for extracting the cartridge cases of spent cartridges from the cartridge chamber and ejecting them from said firearm. The reciprocating member is machined to define a breech face recess. A cartridge specific breech face element is removably secured within the breech face recess to adapt the firearm to fit a cartridge of desired caliber and configuration. The breech face element can be provided in specifically desired dimensions to compensate for wide tolerances or wear of the reciprocating member.
