PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce friction produced between a rotary disc and a stationary disc to suppress the wear of a closed surface.SOLUTION: A gas control valve is provided with a transmission interrupting unit (a stopper 25 and a locking unit 26) for interrupting power transmission from a motor 28 to a rotary disc 13 in a safety valve operation range. The rotation of the rotary disc 13 is thus stopped in the safety valve operation range so that a friction between the rotary disc 13 and a stationary disc 14 does not occur. The gas control valve is further provided with an adhesion varying unit (a spring member 27 and a carriage lifting cam) for varying the adhesion of the rotary disc 13 to the stationary disc 14. The adhesion of the rotary disc 13 to the stationary disc 14 is determined to be weaker in a flow rate adjusting range than the adhesion in the safety valve operation range so that friction produced between the rotary disc 13 and the stationary disc 14 in the flow rate adjusting range can be suppressed.

The valve is axially deformable beyond a predefined load threshold and compensates for dilations of the expandable member under a normal operating condition, absorbing axial forces exerted by the thermostat knob when rotated to switch off a burner driven by the thermostat.
