136 Drill frame with tool magazine US11353278 2006-02-15 US07631704B2 2009-12-15 Carl Hagemeyer; Thomas Wurm; Albert Clemens
A drill frame or drill platform 1 is allocated to a ship caisson 6 in order to allow bore holes 12, 13 to be driven, for example, into the bottom of a lake 11. Since said bore holes 12, 13 must subsequently be filled with explosives, the use of several drill tools 25 of different design is necessary and possible because a rod magazine 20 comprising several different drill tools 25 is allocated to said drill frame 1. It enables simple and rapid replacement because a conventional clamping device 29 and clamping and crushing device 30 can be employed. The individual drill tools 25 are each equipped with adapters 31 of identical design so that they can be seized and actuated safely using the described clamping and drilling (sic) devices 29, 30.
137 Pivoting pipe handler for off-line make up of drill pipe joints US11252492 2005-10-18 US07228919B2 2007-06-12 Neil E. Fehres; Thomas A. Yost
An apparatus and method for use in the off-line make-up of drill pipe stands on drilling rigs used in the exploration and production of oil and gas reserves are disclosed. The disclosed invention is a pipe handling system in which a section of the V-door ramp attached to a drilling rig structure pivots to allow one or more joints of drill pipe to be placed in a vertical position. Through use of an off-line roughneck in conjunction with an off-line drill pipe elevator, the joints of drill pipe held in the vertical position via the pivoting pipe handler of the present invention can be connected together, connected to additional joints of drill pipe, and placed in a racking board to be stored until they are subsequently connected to the drill string. The use of the pivoting pipe handler of the present invention allows stands of drill pipe to be “made-up” without the need to interrupt drilling operations and, thus, significantly reduces the amount of time required to drill a borehole.
