The invention relates to a method for producing a visually identifiable diffractive pattern on a substrate by subjecting the substrate to pressure by bringing it into contact with a surface of an embossing plate. An imprinted paper or paperboard sheet, which is varnished at the contacting area of the embossing plate and the substrate is used as a substrate for the embossing. The invention relates also to a product manufactured using the described method. The method is applicable, for example, for common packaging materials, which contain a paperboard, imprinting and a varnish layer for producing a visually attractive and unique marking.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the surface irregularity of brightness (feeling) caused at the time of resin impregnation or thermocompression forming when brightness is applied to the design of a thermosetting resin decorative sheet or decorative paper sheet therefor without adding a transparent ink layer to the surface of the decorative paper sheet additionally.
SOLUTION: A bright ink layer 3 containing a brilliant pigment comprising scaly foil pieces of a bright substance is provided on a paper base material 1 as the outermost surface layer and ink, wherein an aqueous resin such as a casein resin, an acrylic resin or the like is used together with a urethane resin emulsion as the resin of the ink of the bright ink layer, is used to obtain the decorative paper sheet 10 having brightness. If a pattern ink layer 2 by usual ink is provided between the ink layer and the paper base material, the design of the decorative paper sheet 10 is further enhanced. The decorative paper sheet 10 is impregnated with a thermosetting resin such as a melamine resin or the like and the impregnated decorative paper sheet is laminated on an adherend 6 such as a backing base material 4 or overlay paper sheet 5 and the whole is subjected to thermocompression forming to cure the resin to obtain the thermosetting resin decorative sheet 20 having brightness.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cast paper capable of producing cast paper having desired surface pattern or finished cast paper and obtain cast paper. SOLUTION: A polymer coating of a web 1 to which a polymer coating is applied is heated to a temperature enough to melt the polymer and a polymer coating is cooled in a cooling process so that the polymer coating material becomes from melted state to a solid state when the web is passed through a nip formed between an embossing roll 3 and a packing roll 4. Thereby, surface shape of the embossing roll 3 is transferred onto a polymer-coated web 1 to produce cast paper having the desired surface pattern or finished cast paper. The polymer is preferably a polyolefin, e.g. poly(4 methyl-1-pentene) or a mixture of polypropylene with polyethylene. The rear coating for preventing the warping is preferably applied, e.g. using polyvinyl alcohol after emboss treatment.
