Pantyhose are formed from two circularly knitted blanks of which the toes have been left unsewn, by an operation wherein the upper portions of the blanks are slit and sewn and then, without turning the entire garment inside out, the garment is slipped over a pair of suction tubes in close proximity to the sewing machine on which the panty portion has been sewed, and suction applied to pull the toe portions through and out of the ends of the tubes in inside-out condition for sewing of the toes which then can be pulled out of the tubes by sliding the leg portions back along the tubes until the toes have been turned to their original position, and then the entire garment slid forwardly off the tubes; thus greatly expediting the operation. The blanks may be dyed and scoured at a boil in advance of these operations.

PERKINS C |
A machine attachment for separating tubular knitted articles knitted in succession and connected each to the next succeeding one by a frangible joining thread, in accordance with which the fabric is gripped above and below a separation line and between the positions of gripping the fabric is deflected laterally by a pusher device until the joining thread is fractured and the leading article separated from the next succeeding one, the separated article being subsequently drawn away through a discharge tube . The pusher device is conveniently formed as part of a short tube through which the fabric from the knitting machine passes, which tube is slidable laterally between upper and lower openings for passage of the fabric, which openings have flaps to close them and provide for the gripping of the fabric.

GRIZZLE C |
Apparatus for separating articles, such as hosiery, which are successively knit as ''''string work'''' and joined together by breaking thread. Clamping means is operable from the pattern means of the knitting machine for clamping spaced apart portions above and below the breaking thread juncture and means is provided for applying a lateral force to the fabric between the clamped portions, the force being sufficient to rupture the breaking threads of the separating courses and to thereby separate the leading hose from the next hose.
