41 Method of restoring a broken warp after mending the same EP91104926.0 1991-03-27 EP0449277A2 1991-10-02 Takegawa, Yujiro

When a warp (1) is broken during weaving on a loom, the broken warp (1) is mended and restored by a method of restoring a broken warp after mending the same, comprising steps of connecting a mending yarn (9) to the trailing portion (1a) of the broken warp (1) to form a mended warp (1); cutting a normal warp (1) drawn through the same slit between dents (6) as that the broken warp (1) is to be drawn through and inserting a mending yarn (54) with a sufficient length between the cut ends of the normal warp (1), tying the mending yarn (9) connected to the trailing portion (1a) of the broken warp (1) to the normal warp (1) drawn through the same slit between the dents (6) as that the broken warp (1) is to be drawn through; and pulling the normal warp (1) toward the take-up side so that the mended warp (1) and the normal warp (1) are tightened properly. Thus, the mended warp (1) is drawn through the slit between the dents (6) together with the normal warp (1).

A method of jointing flexible fibrous strands, the method includes the steps of:

placing on the ends 3, 4 of the fibrous strands to be joined a heated thermoplastic glue:

butt jointing the ends together;

rolling the butt joint 17 to maintain a constant thickness in the strands and to cause the glue to wick within the fibres of the ends to thereby produce an improved joint. The invention further provides apparatus for jointing flexible fibrous strands, the apparatus including guide means (12) and clamping means 5,6 for holding the ends 3,4 together, cutting means 11 for squaring the ends, means 14 for applying a measured quantity of a hot melt glue to the ends 3,4 means for moving the ends to abutt each other to allow the glue to wick within the fibres of the ends 3,4 and means 18 for rolling the joint to even the diameter thereof to produce a joint 17 with no obvious variations in the strands.

The invention relates to a joint for two yarn ends, whereby the yarn ends are joined, facing each other, without diameter increase over a yarn length by means of at least one longitudinal tape. Said longitudinal tape comprises a joint means on the side thereof facing the yarn ends. The joint means permanently binds said yarn ends to the longitudinal tape over the corresponding yarn length by frictional engagement.

55 Clamping device for a yarn layer and use thereof US050257 1993-05-12 US5373614A 1994-12-20 Hansjorg Bertschinger
A clamping device for clamping a yarn layer includes a clamping rail, a clamping comb that is insertable into the yarn layer, and a reed comb that is also insertable into the yarn layer. The clamping comb is provided with spaced apart clamping lamellae which each have a clamping edge facing the clamping rail for clamping yarn between the clamping rail and the clamping edge of the clamping lamellae. At least one of the clamping rail and the clamping comb are adjustable relative to the other so that the clamping rail and the clamping comb approach one another to clamp the yarn. The reed comb and the clamping comb are longitudinally adjustable relative to one another by an amount greater than the spacing between the adjacent lamellae of the clamping comb in order to deflect the yarn. A method of clamping a warp-yarn layer through use of such a clamping device includes positioning the clamping device on one side of a warp-yarn layer having a plurality of yarns, and moving the clamping device towards the warp-yarn layer to insert the clamping comb and the reed comb into the warp-yarn layer. The clamping device is moved while a clamping gap exists between the clamping rail and the clamping edges. Relative longitudinal movement is then initiated between the reed comb and the clamping comb to deflect the yarns of the warp-yarn layer so that the yarns cross the clamping edges of a plurality of adjacent lamellae. Thereafter, the clamping gap is closed to clamp the deflected yarn.

57 Thread gripper US887440 1978-03-16 US4175307A 1979-11-27 Alois Altenweger
A thread gripper comprising at least two frictionally coacting clamping surfaces for engaging and holding threads at a textile machine, such as a warp-tying machine and the like, wherein the thread gripper performs predetermined movements. Means serve to alter the intensity of the frictional force applied by the clamping surfaces in a predetermined manner as a function of the path through which the thread gripper moves.
58 Warp end tying machine US28149072 1972-08-17 US3813742A 1974-06-04 BAR H
Warp end tying machine for tying together the threads of two warp thread groups. There is provided a device for tying together the ends of two groups of warp threads which comprises essentially a tying hook, a cutting device, and a reciprocable suction tube having a jaw-shaped mouth. The tying hook comprises a radial projection on a rotatable tube, said tube being hollow and connected to a source of suction. The suction tube functions both as holding means for the threads to be tied and as disposal means for disposing of the cut ends thereof. The suction tube first receives the threads and holds same in a first position with respect to the tying hook, such that the hook in rotating about its axis will form the thread into a loop. After such rotation is completed, the suction tube holder moves parallel with the axis of the tying hook to bring a portion of the threads ahead of the loop made by rotation of the hook. A cutter then cuts said threads close to the hook and suction within the hook draws said end inwardly and through such loop. The knot may now be drawn tight and same is completed.
