A fail safe stop motion for looms having mechanical warp stop motions for effecting a positive cessation of loom operation in the event of electrical power failure to the loom and which will prevent a restart of the loom, except by manual manipulation of the loom''s shipper handle upon restoration of the electrical power.

A stationary contact bar of U-shaped cross-section with the open side of the U directed upwardly extends crosswise of a loom. A reciprocating insulative support bar is disposed to extend with clearance into the opening between the limbs of the cross-section of the stationary bar and to extend above those limbs. A reciprocating contact bar having teeth formed thereon is affixed to the support bar above those limbs, and a plurality of drop wires having the shape of apertured plates are engaged over these bars to fall into bridging contact between the two contact bars upon breakage of warp threads threaded through those drop wires.

Apparatus and method to detect a highly tensioned warp yarn being supplied to a textile machine. The warp yarn sheet is scanned to detect a warp yarn or yarns under excessive tension to stop the operation of the textile machine prior to breakage of the detected highly tensioned yarn or yarns and/or damaging stretch in the yarn producing streaks in the fabric produced therefrom.

FIORUCCI GEORGES P |
In a loom or warping system, a safety arrangement is provided for operating machine-stopping or detecting means whenever a thread breaks. To this end, the sheet of parallel threads is constrained to pass over a braking member, in practice between frictionally acting parallel transverse bars, so that upon breaking of a thread beyond the braking member, said thread may continue progressing to the rear of and towards the latter by reason of the driving action of the adjacent threads. The broken thread gathers thus into a ball adjacent the braking member on the path of a pencil of light grazing the sheet of threads just before it reaches the braking member and sent out by a source of light towards a photo-cell releasing an alarm or the like mechanism whenever a thread breaks. The source of light and photo-cell are advantageoulsy rigid with the braking member so as to make the operation independent of the vibrations of the loom, warping system or the like machine.
