A manual loom can be complemented by a device which makes possible computer-controlled weaving even in such simple looms. The device comprises a PC, a printed board control and a module block having air cylinders with appurtenant pistons which bear the weighted lifting rods for the warp threads.
6 Fabric forming machine including pneumatic shedding apparatus and method US991101 1992-12-16 US5390709A 1995-02-21 Barnabas Martonffy
A shedding apparatus for being fitted onto a fabric-forming machine such as a loom for controlling the up and down movement of warp-carrying heddles to form a filling insertion zone. The shedding apparatus includes a computer for storing pattern information relating to a pre-determined pattern to be translated into a woven pattern on the fabric-forming machine. A plurality of pneumatic piston and cylinder assemblies are attached to respective heddles for pneumatically moving the heddle attached thereto into and out of shed-forming position. Pressurized air is delivered to predetermined piston and cylinder assemblies to thereby move the selected piston and cylinder assemblies and their respective heddles into upper and lower shed-forming positions to receive a filling yarn to thereby create a portion of the pattern.
7 Seam weaving method using a shedding system with pneumatically operated heddles US939472 1992-09-04 US5360038A 1994-11-01 Seiji Sano
A shedding device and a method for joining the ends of a fabric into an endless belt of fabric, or, alternatively, joining the ends of separate pieces of fabric into a single piece of fabric. The shedding device employs a plurality of heddles supported at only one end, allowing the heddles to be individually moved or adjusted. The heddles are connected to the top ends of piston rods of a plurality of pneumatic cylinders. The heddles move up and down to shift threads passing through the heddles, so as to form a shed. The shedding method employs an interweaving piece of fabric, with a portion of the interweaving piece having only weft threads. The weft thread of the interweaving piece interwoven with the warp threads of the ends of the fabric to be joined. Alternatively, the weft threads of the interweaving piece can be interwoven with the weft threads of the ends of the fabric to be joined.
8 Pneumatic control mechanism for looms and the like US3664383D 1970-06-11 US3664383A 1972-05-23 MINCHEY JERRY M; RAMSEY WILLARD A
A pneumatic tape reader utilizes standard 1 inch wide 8 column punched data tape to activate pattern control elements of a loom dobby head or Jacquard head to produce variations in the weave pattern. The advancement of the tape through the reader is synchronized with the pick cycle of the loom and an air supply valve for the reader is similarly synchronized. A simplified pneumatic actuator for each loom pattern control element is operated by a small pneumatic output tube on the reader, thus eliminating relatively expensive conventional air cylinder and piston units. The reader possesses general utility in the reading of pneumatic data to any pneumatic logic system of fluidic system of gates, flip-flops, amplifiers or the like.

10 Shedding device having piston-cylinder system US701402 1996-08-22 US5762112A 1998-06-09 Mark Feer
A shedding device for looms includes healds each having a first end and a second end; and a piston-cylinder system for guiding warps in the healds by moving the healds between a top shed position and a lower shed position. The piston cylinder system includes: pistons each being connected at one end thereof to the second end of a corresponding one of the healds; and cylinders, each piston being reciprocatingly disposed in a corresponding one of the cylinders. The device further includes a system block, the cylinders defining bores in the system block; a guide block defining guide bores therein, the first end of each of the healds being guided in the guide bores of the guide block; a regulating pressure arrangement for actuating the pistons within the cylinders alternatingly between the top shed position and the lower shed position, the regulating arrangement including an arrangement for producing a return force on the pistons thereby bringing respective ones of the healds to their lower shed position. The arrangement for producing includes: a feed line connecting the pressure medium source to the cylinders on an upper side of the pistons; and a valve arrangement disposed in the feed line. A guide bore cleaning system is provided for periodically cleaning the guide bores with pressure medium. The cleaning system includes a common feed line connecting a source of the pressure medium to the guide bores; and a valve arrangement disposed in the common feed line.
11 Jacquard loom latch control mechanism US416068 1995-04-04 US5647403A 1997-07-15 Charles Everage Willbanks
A method and apparatus utilizing an elongate, flexible member operatively attached to rods that move up and down, on a Jacquard loom. A latch control mechanism is provided for latching said elongate, flexible member in a fixed position by applying pressure thereto by vacuum or pressure. This latching of the rod in an upper position creates a shed whereby filling yarns can be passed through to create Jacquard fabric. The pressure can be applied against the elongate, flexible member by filling sealed elongate, elastomeric member with pressured gas. In addition, the pressure can be applied against the elongate, flexible member by activating a dimensionally alterable, electric element that presses against the elongate, flexible member.
12 Arcuate heddle and shedding system employing an arcuate heddle US250776 1994-05-27 US5494080A 1996-02-27 Seiji Sano
A shedding system having a plurality of heddles supported by and connected to top ends of piston rods of pneumatic cylinders. The heddle employed by the shedding system is elongated in one direction, and has an arcuate portion which forms an arc about a line running in the elongated direction of the heddle. A method of joining a fabric by a woven seam uses the above-mentioned system to form the shed in an array of the threads of an interweaving piece.

A device (1) and a method are provided for shedding with a warp thread (5). The device has a lifter (7) that is connected to a resilient spring element (9) and to the warp thread (5). The device also has a controllable actuator (11). The spring element (9) is non-rotatably clamped at both spring element ends in mountings (13, 15). The spring element (9) is compressed axially at one side by the actuator (11), forcing the spring element (9) to flex and forcing the lifter (7) to be oscillated by alternating flexural deformations of the spring element (9).
18 Reading and lifting device for a control machine US236482 1981-02-23 US4385646A 1983-05-31 Walter Kleiner
A reading and lifting device has a force amplifying bar which can be reciprocated vertically and is driven positively, and a reading needle is slidably supported therein. A pattern card with nonperforated and perforated points is provided below the force amplifying bar. When the needle hits a nonperforated point, the needle is moved back into the force amplifying bar. In one embodiment, the needle slides with its head on a surface which effects a swivelling of a lock member. Through this, an end of the lock member comes to lie in front of an offset portion of a control arm. The force amplifying bar during its downward movement then carries the control arm along against the force of a spring. The device facilitates the sensitive reading of a pattern card and the forceful passing on of the control information read.
19 Apparatus for use in a weaving process US928115 1978-07-25 US4195671A 1980-04-01 Achille Bossut
Apparatus for the individual control of the raising and lowering movement of warp yarns on a fabric weaving loom, in which the warp yarns are passed through guide eyes, these eyes being mounted on the piston rods of fluid pressure operated piston and cylinder jacks. There are a large number of jacks, these being grouped in a plurality of units which are removable and are juxtaposable with respect to number and position in accordance with the desired density of warp threads, the units being arranged in at least two tiers. This gives great flexibility of control.
