This invention relates to an improved process for making colored polyamide fibers. The process involves adding about 0.1 to about 3.0 weight percent polycarbonate to a polyamide melt prior to extruding the melt through a spinneret to make colored fibers. The invention also encompasses the resultant fibers. |

Disclosed is a plastics composition comprising a thermoplastic blend comprising: (1) 5-95 wt % of a polyamide (PA) and 95-5 wt % of a polyester (PE) incorporating 1-50 wt % of an aliphatic dimer fatty acid, (2) 0.01-30 parts by weight of a compound having at least one ethylenically unsaturated group or propylene group and further having a carboxylic, acid anhydride, acid amide, imido, carboxylic ester, amino or hydroxyl group per 100 parts by weight based on the combined weight of PA and PE, (3) 0-90 parts by weight of a polyester not modified with dimer fatty acid per 100 parts by weight based on the combined weight of PA and PE. Preferably the polyester (PE) is a polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate modified with di-oleic acid. The blends have a greatly improved elongation at break and are readily spinnable. |

Ammonia is utilized as a reversible plasticizer in the deformation of theplastic polyamides so as not to degrade the mechanical properties of the deformed material. It may be retained in the material under pressure and/or low temperature during extrusion or other deformation processes and is spontaneously released with time and at reduced pressure and/or elevated temperature at the end of the process, such as at the exit side of an extruder die. |

A composition and process are provided for making precipitated biconstituent nylon-cellulose shaped articles by dissolving a nylon having an amide group index of less than about 145, in a mixture of a tertiary amine oxide solvent and water, containing from about 0.5% to about 11% water based on the weight of the solution; separately forming a solution of cellulose in a tertiary amine oxide solvent containing from about 0.8 to about 29% water based on the weight of the solution and then interdispersing the two solutions to form a biconstituent dispersion. Shaped articles can be formed from the biconstituent dispersions of the invention. |
