US08100356B2 Apparatus and method for winding film onto a film roll
An issue with conventional stretch films is that the edges of the film can be easily damaged, which may result in tearing or failure of the film during use. Folding the film edges may reduce such damage but yields uneven rolls of film that are difficult to unwind. The present disclosure describes in-process devices, systems, and methods for oscillating the film to prevent stacking of the folded edges as the film is wound onto a film roll. The present disclosure also describes in-process devices, systems, and methods for entrapping air between the layers of film as they are wound onto a film roll. As a result, the film is less susceptible to damage and easier to use.

US08100353B2 Self-healing cutting apparatus and other self-healing machinery
Self-healing of a mechanical part in a mechanical system is provided, such as a self-healing part in a cutting apparatus. Differential hardness of respective parts in contact with each other is used. Undesirable damage from a foreign object in a mechanical system is managed by directing damage away from a part that is not wanted to be damaged and towards a part that may receive damage and be replaced. True zero-clearance cutting on a commercial scale is provided via a cutting area including a sacrifice material that is relatively softer than the cutter. One example is a cutting system which is capable of cutting a material such as, for example, tape or paper, into a fiber or powder. Destruction of the material is further enhanced by advantageous strategic patterning of cutting edges on a rotary cutter, and further by secondary shredding features. For example, on the same axis as the rotary cutter, may be disposed, one on each end, rotating secondary shredders that receive material that has been cut by the rotary cutter as well as material that has escaped cutting by the rotary cutter. A variety of materials, of different thicknesses and types, may be reduced to a dust or powder-size. A single destruction machine advantageously may receive (with minimal operator intervention) a mixed input load, such as a mixture of a combination of paper (including paper that is folded, ripped, stapled, or otherwise irregular), CDs, DVDs, polyester, plastic cards, SMART cards, wood, Verichips, flash drives, biometric chips, and/or other generally-planar materials.

US08100345B2 Fuel injection device
A needle is forced to open an injection hole by reducing a pressure of fuel in an injection control chamber to thereby inject fuel stored in a fuel storage, while the needle is forced to close the injection hole by increasing the pressure of fuel in the injection control chamber to thereby terminate injection of fuel from the injection hole. In a valve-closing stroke of the needle to close the injection hole, fuel pressure is supplied from a common accumulator to the fuel storage and the injection control chamber in such a manner that the pressure to supply fuel to the fuel storage is lower than that to supply fuel to the injection control chamber. In this way, a force acting on the needle toward the injection hole side can be increased in the valve-closing stroke, to thereby accelerate a valve-closing speed of the needle.

A continuous assemblage of pots for raising and transplanting seedlings and a method of manufacturing the assemblage is provided, in which it is possible to extend the length of a link piece without folding an extension portion or arranging a slit, thereby making it possible to handle enlargement of the interval between the planted seedlings stably and reliably. A link piece is formed by folding back both ends of a strip-shaped thin film in the length direction, such that approximately one-fourth of the length of the thin film is folded back onto the same face of the thin film at each end, then attaching the folded-back portions to the same face of the thin film with a water-soluble adhesive. The link pieces are disposed in two rows in a staggered arrangement in which the folded-back portions are oriented such that they face the folded-back portions of the opposing link pieces. Continuous pieces are formed by using a non-water-soluble adhesive to attach both ends in the length direction of each link piece to the opposing link pieces. Individual pots are formed between the opposing link pieces. Therefore, it is possible to extend the length of the link piece without folding an extension portion or arranging a slit, as in the conventional continuous assemblage of pots, thereby making it possible to handle enlargement of the interval between the planted seedlings stably and reliably.
US08099893B2 Method for permanent disturbance/destruction of electronics, in particular of a blast case or the like
In a first step, it is proposed that tunable transmitters and detectors (receivers) be included in a detection system and that a narrowband, preferably variable frequency signal be used in order to determine the frequencies for optimum injection into the electronics of a target. When the detection system identifies these frequencies, destruction can be initiated in the second step of the invention for a transmitter or receiver which is communicating with the target. For this purpose, once the optimum frequencies have been determined, a high-power signal is transmitted into the local area of the target at the specific/determined frequency. The evaluation unit, which is integrated in the detection system, controls the transmission frequencies, evaluates the harmonic signals, selects the optimum frequencies for an attack, and controls and checks the attack process.
