A tape splicing apparatus in which two tapes are quickly joined with no air bubbles entrapped by splicing tape. A drum body holds splicing tape by suction pressure applied through holes and the peripheral surface of the drum. The splicing tape is cut into segments of predetermined length upon the drum surface. The drum is then lowered to the splicing position upon stationary and movable receiving stands to press the sticky side of the tape segment against the abutting tape joint. A movable roller presses the splicing tape segment, which was initially attached along only a single line, in forward then rearward directions from the center of the joint so that no air can be entrapped under the splicing tape.

PURPOSE:To automatically joint the trailing end of a preceding tape and the leading end of a succeeding tape, by combining a tape pad holder, guide rollers, an accumulator, vacuum chucks, a cutter and a tape breaking detector, so as to perform a specified action. CONSTITUTION:When the tape breaking detector 22 detects a breaking of the tape of a tape pad 7 on the tape pad holder 5, the detection output causes valves 18, 19 in exhaust pipes 16, 17 to be opened, and the second and third vacuum chucks 14, 15 attract and hold the tape being traveled along a horizontal track part. After cutting the tape by moving the cutter 20 upwards, the third vacuum chuck 15 moves upwards so that the cut end of the tape held by the chuck 15 is pressed against an adhesive tape 24 being attracted and held by the first vacuum chuck 11, and is adhered to the tape 24. Accordingly, the leading end of a tape 23a of a fully wound new tape pad 23 and the trailing end of the preceeding tape 6 are jointed to each other by the adhesive tape 24.

PURPOSE: To permit high precision butt bonding with a relatively compact mechanism by preventing growth of air reservoirs between bonded surfaces of bonded tape and bonding one to carry out the but bonding of tapes. CONSTITUTION: This device comprises a movable carriage 14, fixed carriage 17, tape cutting knives 35, 93, drum body 59, pressure roller 94, slant and horizontal drive means 96, 97, etc. By this constitution, a magnetic tape T 1 and leader tape T 2 can be butt bonded with high reliability and accuracy for relatively short time. Particularly, since a bonding tape T 3 adsorbed to and held on the outer peripheral surface of the body 59 bears at first against the butt bonding portion linearly at the minimized area and then is press bonded thereto in the left and right direction by the roller 94 to provide the overall surface bonding, growth of air reservoirs between bonded surfaces can be completely prevented.
