CONSTITUTION:A powdered or matted polysaccharide is added to an aq. soln. of sodium periodide or the like and reacted at 30 deg.C to partially convert the polysaccharide into aldehyde. The polysaccharide includes finely divided paper-making sludge. The polysaccharide partially converted into aldehyde is then dissolved or dispersed in 4-10 times as much water or an aq. soln. of acetic acid, and to this soln. or dispersion is added 1-0.5 time as much an amino cpd. such as melamine as the polysaccharide by wt. to induce condensation at 40-100, esp. 90-100 deg.C, thus obtaining a desired polymer adsorbent.
