CONSTITUTION: A cold trap 36 for cleaning-up liquid Na of a coolant is made smaller in diameter and is suspended from a roof slab 1 in a vessel 38 of a tank type fast breeder. The liquid Na of the coolant contg. an increased concn. of O
2 , H
2 and other impurities after reiterative use enters a main pump 35 from a low temp. plenum 40 in the vessel 38 and passes through a high pressure plenum 42 into a furnace core 34 where the liquid Na is heated and is then fed to a high-temp. plenum 39. Part of the liquid Na in the plenum 42 is at the same time admitted through an introducing pipe 43 into the cold trap device 36 where the Na is cooled by a cooler 46 and the impurities are deposited on and captured by a metallic mesh layer 44. The cleaned-up Na returns again through an outlet 45 to the low temp. plenum 40 in the vessel 38 and acts as a coolant. The trap 36 itself is of a small-sized cylindrical shape and does not require a pump and therefore the reduction in the size of said trap is possible.
