CONSTITUTION: DC power is applied to the primary side of an in erter transformer 1 while the polarity of the DC power is changed over. An exciting current due to the saturation of the core of the inverter transformer 1 is detected by a differential current transformer 6 and rectified by a rectification circuit 7. The rectified current is converted into a voltage by a resistor 8. The voltage is compared with a reference voltage 10 by a comparator 9. The reference voltage 10 corresponds to the value of the exciting current at the maximum level of magnetic flux density. When the value detected by the differential current transformer 6 exceeds a reference value, the output of the comparator 9 is inverted and the turn-off angle of a gate drive circuit is controlled so that an inverter 4 is turned off. This results in preventing the saturation of the core of the inverter transformer and improving its reliability.
