CONSTITUTION: The intake air is supplied to the internal combustion engine via Venturi 1 and throttle valve 7. And the outlet of by-pass path 2 is provided at the narrowest part of Venturi 1, and the inlet opens at the upper stream of Venturi 1 respectively. Thus the air within Venturi 1 is changed into the by-pass current to be returned to Venturi 1 after passing through path 2 and via laminar flow tube 9. At the same time, the air flow amount of path 2 is detected via hot wire probe 3 and temperature probe 4. In this way, the differential p pessure proportional the the square of the flow amount is generated by the Venturi, and at the same time the by-pass current proportional to the differential pressure is produced via the laminar flow tube. This by-pass current is then detected via the hot wire to linearize the air flow amount and the output signal of the hot wire, thus increasing the measurement accuracy.
