The surface of the plate contacting with a liq. crystal is coated with a soln. prepared by mixing a polyimide type polymer material with about 1 milli%-5% by vol. of a hydrolyzable silicon compound contg. bonded hydrocarbon groups including at least one group having an affinity for the plate surface, e.g. the compound of formula I, II or III by dipping, spinner coating, spraying or other method.
