CONSTITUTION: When data is inputted to an equalizer input 1, the data is being stored in a tapped delay line sequentially, and the data is convoluted with the tap coefficient 4 by a convolution computing element 3. Then a convolution arithmetic unit 16 convolutes the data of the tapped delay line 2 and a tap coefficient 7. The both are given respectively to identifier devices 5, 13 where a square of a difference of the inputs and outputs is obtained. When a difference between a square error (II) 15 and a square error (I) 14 is not negative, the tap coefficient (I) 4 is selected and when negative, the tap coefficient (II) 7 is selected. Then the tap coefficient is adjusted so as to minimize the square of the difference between the input and output of the identifier device 5 according to the predetermined algorithm. Thus, even when the change speed of the transmission line is large or the S/N is decreased momentarily, the adaptive equalization is applied.
