Also, this device is provided with a collating means 6 for collecting successively a series of fixed dimension feature vectors selected and combined successively from in the time series data of the feature parameter and a recognition use dictionary and deriving a time series value of similarity. Moreover, this device is provided with a deciding means 8 for recognizing the time series data inputted from the time series value of similarity, an extracting means 14 for extracting a learning use fixed dimension feature vector from the time series data of the feature parameter, and a working means 12 for applying an artificial pattern deformation to a reference pattern of the time series data. In such a way, even under the condition that a pattern deformation of a time series signal is large, a high recognition rate is obtained.
