CONSTITUTION: Part of the inflow waste water contg. humic acid is introduced into a two wavelength spectrophotometer 1, by which the absorbancies K400, K600 at two wavelengths 400nm and 600nm are automatically measured with lapse of time roughly and simultaneously. The difference ΔlogK of the logarithms between the absorbancies K400 and K600 is calculated in an arithmetic device 2 and the amt. of the chemical to be added is determined on the spot from the specified relation between ΔlogK and the required amts. of the chemicals to be added stored beforehand in a storage device 3. A control device 4 for the amt. of the chemicals operates according to said value and adds the required amts. of the chemicals automatically from chemical tanks 5, 6 to a reactor 7. The waste water treated in the reactor 7 is settled and separated of suspended matter formed thereon in a settling tank 8, and is then discharged as the treated water having specified water quality.
