PREPARATION: The compound of formula I is produced by reducing 8-halo-6-nitro-1,3-benzodioxane of formula II with hydrogen in an organic solvent in the presence of a catalyst. The solvent is e.g. alcohol such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, etc. or ester such as ethyl acetate, etc. The reaction of the compound of formula I with e.g. isopropyl chloroformate gives the carbamate of formula III, which has fungicidal activity to plant pathogens resistant to benzimidazole thiophanate fungicides.
