CONSTITUTION: A novel Streptomyces sp. RK-1339 (FERM-P No.6934) has been separated from soil. The objective novel antibiotic substance RK-1339B can be prepared by culturing the microbial strain. The antibiotic substance exhibits the following chemical and biological properties. Elementary analysis, C 64.58%, H 9.37%, N 1.48%; molecular weight, 925; melting point, 147W155°C; solubility, soluble in methanol, ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene, hardly soluble in water and hexane; color reactions, positive to potassium permanganate, iodine, anisaldehyde-sulfuric acid reactions, and negative to ninhydrin reaction; biological activity, exhibits cytopathogenic action to Yoshida sarcoma cell, and growth inhibiting action to various fungi, plant pathogens, algae and bacteria.
